Richard, It is very clear to be now why your models always come together so quick, and look so good.

You just have that "eye" that lets you see things and transform them from what you see in your mind, to what is actually there in front of you. I can envision things, but that transition from vision to reality, that takes a special something that you certainly seem to have. You garden, your home, your hobbies. You seem to be a deeply talented, and perhaps a very happy person. Good on you sir.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Richard. I can see you have quite a few tallents, and that combined with creativity and a strong work ethic has yielded some impresive results. I especialy like the Japanese style garden; it looks very restful.

Richard, It is very clear to be now why your models always come together so quick, and look so good.

I can envision things, but that transition from vision to reality, that takes a special something that you certainly seem to have. You garden, your home, your hobbies. well yes i know what you mean , i always have like a idea and vision , not like a picture but a general line , or when i see something on a picture online i can get something similair going ...

my wife really doenst have that imagination and sometimes thinks huh what is this .. but she knows it ususally will turn out good hahahaha

btw i was not always like that i got more like this (build stuff and tinker around) at a later age

you know what the fun part is and thats something i could not change about myself ..

everything i create is done on the fly , on my modelbuilds , the garden , my house , furniture and even the motorcycle , i just start building and really have no clue what i'm going to build ... no drawings , no set plans and i just pick up materials and start ...

seems to work best for me ....

second part is , i earn a decnt and good living but i dont have the funds to go to the stores and just buy materials i want .. if money was no object i could do so much more .. but ... and yes but ..

building stuff for a fraction of the cost people normally spend is just fun

like on my house i use all sorts of stuff thats either cheap or for free , when i buy wood i look at the prices and take the cheapest bundle i think i can make work .. that does not mean i dont want to spend but there are more roads leading to ...

the garden is really a laugh all the stones and i have like so much i got for free and got out of old stone piles ...

i can keep writing examples but whell you catch my drift ..

in a way it just so much fun ..

an example the secretaire desk i showed ... i was looking at a second hand site where people can put stuff for sale , its hollands biggest site called marktplaats (marketplace) so for 4 months i looked for such a desk , they either asked a lot of money or it was really far away ..

so one day i found one 10 minutes driving from my house ..(lol) and i bid 75 euros .. and that got accepted ... when i was done ...i found out if i would now buy such a desk in a store new or in a store vintage and done up like i did i would have to pay inbetween 800 to 1000 euros ... (whow)

lets say i spend 10 euro on paint my grand total was 85 euro .. hahaha

same with the bike i got that stock , in working order and for its age like new for 350 euro thats about 481,88 us dollar ...

parts like legs , front wheel and small stuff where all parts that cost almost nothing second hand , the most expensive part was the new headlight i bought (new) ... so money wise its a laugh and fun wise its just ... so much fun to build something

and whell i'm happy when i'm able to hobby around .. but sometimes i get frustrated .. i have like this skin pain on my legss , like 1000 needles are stuck in my skin .. and sometimes doing diy stuff and heavy construction is frustrating because i cant stand too long on a ladder or sit down on the floor .. i have been in and out of hospitals and they could never find anything , the only things they said was i have some musscle strenght loss in my leggs but they cant find out why or how , also did like fitness for my legs at a special palce but it did not get better .. so now i learned to live with it .. its also like good periouds and bad periouds ...and no its not rheumatism ...

oh whell enough about that :) its cool to see you guys like my tinkering :) hahaha

oh and for what its worth this forum has been the biggest inspiration for me on modelbuilding ever , and this forum has lead to me becoming better every time .. so much stuff here thats mindblowing ... !!!

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Richard. I can see you have quite a few tallents, and that combined with creativity and a strong work ethic has yielded some impresive results. I especialy like the Japanese style garden; it looks very restful.

no problem :) and yes the garden is restfull indeed , for me restfull to work in / on .. i cant really sit a whole day in a chair doing nothing hehehe

my wife usually says ohh there he go's again , i tend to sit down with here to chill and suddenly get an idea and go do it right away :)

ps i'm a truckdriver (big rigs) and at one point i switched to the technical departmnent (garage) at my work and worked for a year and a half taking old trucks and trailers that where like rusted and looked horrible and stripped them completly , sanded them , new paint and decals , new lighting ... and basicly turned a turd into a .... :)

i have so many pics of those :)

that was like so much fun . but due to economy they closed the garage and now i'm driving a bigrig again .....

Looking good Rich, are you still using the Gamma chrome?

everything i create is done on the fly , on my modelbuilds , the garden , my house , furniture and even the motorcycle , i just start building and really have no clue what i'm going to build ... no drawings , no set plans and i just pick up materials and start ...

Its so cool if you can start with something on the fly, I have the contrary.... I think to much before it start :-)

Second part I can only agreed, its fun to build something nice for a small amount off money or use old rubbish

Wow.... where to start? The `31 is flat-out awesome!!! Your scratch building and fabrication are really well done. The on-the-ground stance is just right, and the weathered details are perfect. NICE job!!!

As for the Turtle pond that morphed into a home-renovation, I'm in that boat too.... I see your talented as a DIY'er yourself too. While there was no &^%$%^& way I was putting a roof and siding on my house, everything else is fair game.

You got skillz there Pal.... B)

haha thnx guys and yes the chrome really popped , its adds that extra bit realism :) , hope to do some work on it this weekend

and yes arno its is the gamma chrome :) haha works so nice

for all non dutch people , we have a diy store thats is called gamma , and they sell spray cans of silver from the gamma brand ..

that stuff sprayed looks like chrome , that stuff sprayed in a bowl is like water chrome , its so thin and just like water ..

so easy to let it flow on small parts with a small wooden stick or use a small hand brush :)

and thnx john :) and whell i'm a self made diy-er .. never learned stuff .. and when in a rare occasion a professional sees my work i was usually like uhhm they must have some negative comments , but no i got reactions like great job .. so thats nice to hear :)

plus diy saves you so much money hahahaha

Very nice work Richard! I did tons of work on my old house, including a two story addition that was a kitchen and master suite. The house I live in now is the way I bought it. I also have a glass table. I bought this at an old furniture shop. At first they had this table and two smaller end tables for $1000. I went back a month later and they just had this table, marked down to $250. So I grabbed it. When I got it, the table was just a glass top, so I added the tray to make it a keepsake table.

See Ted sleeping in his chair. That's why we call him the Couch Chameleon. He just blends in!

The table is full of those small things that get put in drawers because you have no where to display them. Some antiques and things we've collected, and some keep sakes like concert tickets and other family trinkets.

nice tom and yes thats also what we use the table for all those little stuff you cant place anywhere , we have some old coins in there , 2 old silver tabacco boxes from grandfathers that passed away and one of my wife's father that i never knew , he passd away when she was young .. perfect place for all those antiques and memorabilia stuff :)
