Memorial Day weekend here in NJ/PA and the weather has been cool and rainy the entire four days (including Friday since I took off).

What irked me 2 minutes ago was seeing how many talented and famous people have passed away over the last couple of weeks. Geez..

Yet Madonna lives on.......sorry material girl fans, just had to add that :D good grief I hope that comment doesn't get me banned!

Yes! My lawn is coming along nicely, but it's too cool and damp to paint model car bodies.

Morons that jump into the left turn lane at the last second so they're at an angle with about 6 inches of their vehicle sticking out into the travel lane. Many times when I was driving the bus the only thing stopping me from booting them was the thought of how much paperwork I would have to do.

Saw some crazy drivers on my Valley of the Sun to Lake Erie dash the last few days....    People that tailgate semi trucks, passing 30-40 mph over the speed limit,  lane changes without signals, etc...

Maybe some drivers are in a hurry to see God???

One of the scarier road moments of my trip was seeing a dark green Mini have a blowout in front of me...the driver fishtailed and almost spun out, but saved it...traffic wasn't too heavy at the time...

Three  New Penski Box van's were in a big hurry, One decided to pass me on the right because a semi was in the left lane. The second almost tried to also pass me on the right, then decided he'd would cut in front of the 18 wheeler in the left lane. The third waited for it to be clear to pass on the left side. All three were speeding and driving agressively. This all happened before the Ohio state line on U.S.30. I stopped at the weighing station as it was open and reported them to the O.S.P.

This morning I had to drive to the company location that's an hour and a half from my home. I left an hour early because I had a conference call at 8am. There was a big truck accident on the NJ Turnpike that brought traffic to a standstill.  I learned about it ahead of time and shot off the Turnpike, onto a local highway. Of course that was stop and go because many people did the same thing. My WAZE navigation program forecast that I would be way late, so I found a McDonalds to make my call on their wifi.

I buy breakfast and get onto my cell phone and Skype on my laptop.  The McDonalds was completely empty. I situated myself in the far corner of the restaurant so I wouldn't bother anyone. Two goobs walk in and decide to sit in the booth attached to my seat!  They could have sat anywhere in the restaurant.  They immediately start causing a problem, yelling at me to shut up etc.  No doubt they sat there purposely to cause a problem. I'm no louder than anyone else on a cell phone. I had no choice but to keep on the call and ignore them.  Finally they finished and left.

Rude people are everywhere anymore. You can hardly go anywhere without running into at least one. Stores, parking lots, gas stations, movie theaters. You can find them everywhere !

that's just one of the problems with the "ME"-llenials, there's so many of them...

Just heard our local staples is closing.  Radioshack is also closing.  Sorry to see local jobs go away. Yeah I can buy online but it doesn't support the local economy.

Radio Shack has been nothing but a toy and phone store for years anyway. Last time I went to one to try to buy some actual electronic components, the millennial dweebs on their 'smart' devices, when they could spare the time to look away from the screens and acknowledge there was a customer in the store, gawked at me like I was speaking Swahili when I asked if they still published the Semiconductor Reference Guide. I don't think anyone in the store had ever even heard the term "semiconductor" before. I also needed some resistors and diodes. Naturally, all the drawers where the little components should have been were empty, having not being restocked since they ran out.

But hey...they had dozens of colorful covers for "devices" of various descriptions, and ear buds with blinking LEDs.

Who gives a damm if a useless place like that is gone? Idiot management and a changing market that can barely change a light bulb, much less build a custom circuit for anything, killed what was once a cool place to go.

Anyone else see a big effort from Staples to convert you to a on-line customer?   On the back of one of their receipts it offered me 50% off on an online order, either with free shipping or free delivery to the store.  I had to buy a big order for NNL East so I went online, ordered it all and was told it would be ready to pick up in an hour at my local store.

The guy in the store said that Staples is trying to close stores and reduce the size of the remaining ones.

I use Office Depot for work; no Staples stores around here (though I did order from them online a couple of times).  Fifty bucks worth of stuff, and they deliver it for free.  Only in a "someone needs something yesterday" situation will I, or someone else, actually go to the store.  I don't have anyone to pick things up; the maintenance peoples' priorities are the building and grounds, and we've only got one part-time driver and he's got his priorities.  I can see these places trying to reduce the size of the stores; like hardware stores and even local hobby shops, they've got a lot of "dead" or slow-moving stock taking up space.  People in my position (buying the supplies) will switch loyalties if they can consistently save money with one supplier over another, so it's not surprising that these places are turning over every rock trying to cut costs.  That also results in a loss of service at the local level, but the people doing the majority of the buying want low price as #1 priority so that's how it's going to go in the future.

Our office places online orders monthly. Generally, the orders are delivered the next day. It is hard to see how the stores remained operational this long. A lot of square footage is taken up by items that are only needed occasionally. How often do you go through a package of pens or pencils. How often do you need a new desk or another 3-ring binder. It is a sign of the times (unfortunately). Just like in the hobby business, consumers are shifting towards online purchases.

For right now the shipping will be free. However once they get a majority into buying online you will see that change. They will have a captive audience.  In the meantime its going to hurt the local economy in a lot of places. Loss of jobs, more vacant retail space which will impact the value of commercial real estate. Not progress in my opinion.

The list of all the dead people bugs me. I come to this forum for fun and relaxation not to get depressed. My own mortality is creeping up on me fast enough so maybe a separate section can be made up and called it Celebrity Obituary where everyone famous that died can be listed. That way one can choose to avoid it if they want.  I use to like coming to the off topic lounge but it's been pretty morbid lately! Sorry for the rant but I needed to get this off my chest!

None of us are getting any younger.  :) Every day I wake up and I'm still able to enjoy my hobbies is a great day (regardless of who around me has passed away).
