Hello,

I had a question on the AMT model kits. I usually purchase Revell kits, however I recently bought an AMT kit and noticied they don't have any paint guides - so I don't know how to paint the colors. How would I know which colors to paint the model? I would like to know if there is some sort of guide to follow similiar to how Revell does where they tell you what parts are painted what. I have a feeling I'll probably just have to use my imagination. Would anyone have any input?

Unless you're building exactly stock representations of production vehicles, or replicating a particular vehicle, your imagination is your only limitation.

For replica stock builds, google image search is your friend. Look for photos of restored or original vehicles to get a very good indication of what color things should be.

Hello

I had a question on AMT model kits. How would I know what colors to paint the parts? I usually buy Revell kits and they tell you what colors to paint everything, but the AMT kits do not. Would there be some type of guide I can download for the models, or would I just have to use my imagination?

Thank you.

You'd just have to look at photos of the real car (whichever one you are building a model of), and go from there. Some AMT kits do have painting guides, but not all of them, just so you'll know in the future. :)

I don't know why two of my posts posted!!

Most likely you posted the same question twice in two sections and a mod noticed it and combined both threads.

Bill has a very good suggestion! I find myself using Google a lot: Go to Google "Advanced Search", and type in the year and make of the car you are building (you can be specific as to the model, but sometimes opening your search to just the make can give you more general information (engine, chassis and so on). When you get the Google Advanced Search, click on "Images" at the top of the page, and go from there!

While pics of restored cars can show body and interior colors, for accuracy try to seek out images of original cars (often "restored" cars don't have correct interiors in them, particularly if the car you are modeling isn't one that sees a lot of restoration. (not every make and model of car will have restoration materials for interiors, for example). Sometimes you will find scans of pages from "dealer brochures"--while those can show interior upholstery patterns, they generally will have correct colors--but artist's renderings of the "greasy parts", particularly engines may be shown in very fanciful colors meant more for advertising than color accuracy. It just takes perseverance to find the correct colors for these--and that is where true restorers generally excel.

Good luck!
