cobraman Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 At the risk of being accused of trying to push the season I was wondering if you guys put up lights and or if you do decorate how involved do your decorations get ? About this time each year my wife starts to mention the lights and such. I guess I will have to start the weekend after Thanksgiving or the next week. This year she has already been hitting some of the stores and has come back with more outside decorations and lights and those lite up figure types of things for the yard. I guess a trip to Home Depot will be in order. Need me some more extension cords.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Being more Grinch than Santa in recent years, i limit my Christmas decorations outside to wreaths on the gates and front door, and a red bow on the mailbox. My neighbor to the immediate south very much likes Chinese-made moving light-show displays, and adds a few each year. I live fairly close to an airport, on an approach path, and I'm concerned that in the fog, a pilot might mistake the city-size glow emanating from next-door as a place to land.
1930fordpickup Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 BAH HUMBUG !!!! A few years ago my good neighbors put lights on my house one night. I did not turn them on till Christmas Eve . Up here in Michigan you put them up when the weather is good. Anytime after the first of November . They just do not turn them on till Thanksgiving.
KingSix Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Despite the fact I'm probably the grumpiest, most abrasive, angry person on the board, I LOVE Christmas, the lights, the music , all of it. Lights are going up this weekend and will be on every night until New Years..
martinfan5 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I have to clean the garage before I can get the Christmas lights out
Ramfins59 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I usually strings some lights in the front window and on the front porch along with a wreath on the front door and a red bow on the outside yard light pole. Then of course there are all the inside decorations around the living and dining rooms. We usually don't start decorating until early December.
MAGNUM4342 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Mine is a solitary existence, and holidays no longer hold any meaning for me. I have one ornament and that's because it's the Batmobile. I don't care to decorate to make my neighbors happy, and if the cats miss decorations they haven't said anything.
High octane Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 While my better half and I have put up minimal decorations in our house, next year we'll have to get a big tree and a train set to go around it as our new grandson will be a little over a year old then. After the train set, maybe a slot car set will be in order??? LOL! I don't do lights outside as I've worked off many ladders when I was working for a living and I'm done with that, unless I have to paint or clean gutters.
Rob Hall Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I never decorate as I usually always travel at Christmas to visit family and friends. Or go to the beach.
slusher Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 We decorate the bushes and put out some plastic lighted figures and candy canes. once l get it down from the attic my wife an 9 year old does the rest. some families here leave lites on the house all year...
Harry P. Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 The "Christmas season" used to start after Thanksgiving. Now I see Christmas displays in the stores the day after Halloween! What next? We start the "Christmas season" the day after Labor Day?
Rob Hall Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 The "Christmas season" used to start after Thanksgiving. Now I see Christmas displays in the stores the day after Halloween! What next? We start the "Christmas season" the day after Labor Day? Maybe eventually the Christmas sales will start Jan 1.. Driving home tonight listening to NPR I heard a segment about people that are lining up and camping out at big-box stores now, getting ready for Black Friday...I wonder, who does crazy stuff like that..don't they have jobs and lives? I can' imagine lining up at store for days or weeks before a sales event. Then again, I never do the Black Friday shopping..too crazy..for me, the Day after Thanksgiving is day to sleep in late and be lazy..
Tom Geiger Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Tonight I got in the car to go pick up a pizza and the radio was blaring "Feliz Navidad" . I turned it off very quickly. I'm not ready for Christmas.
Harry P. Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 for me, the Day after Thanksgiving is day to sleep in late and be lazy.. Amen!
Rob Hall Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) One thing I am looking forward to about the Xmas season is my company's holiday party...dinner at the best steakhouse in Scottsdale, hang out at a casino for the after party, then a room at a hotel paid for by the company...I actually enjoy hanging out w/ my coworkers, being in a small tight-knit consulting company (15 people). Ace-Garageguy Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Ah yes... the true meaning of Christmas! And all this time, I thought it was just about groping the boss' secretary in the copier room... ;) (You'll find people who insist that only "boss's" is correct. For example, the new 16th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style permits only that form, though earlier editions allowed both. To complicate matters even further, the U.S. Government Printing Office Style Manual, 30th ed., 2008, permits only boss' for the possessive of boss.)
Harry P. Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 And all this time, I thought it was just about groping the boss' secretary in the copier room... ;) While whispering sweet nothings about manufacturing in her ear?
slusher Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Many people around here have put up Chrimas decorations last week. Hobby lobby put chrimas decor and trees up at labor day week end...
Harry P. Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Hobby lobby put chrimas decor and trees up at labor day week end... Sick.
Ju Ju Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Despite the fact I'm probably the grumpiest, most abrasive, angry person on the board, What are you so angry about there, Skippy ?
Nxr Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Christmas gets kinda ruined by all these retail stores overstocking certain odd holiday items which nobody gets and the repetitive Christmas soundtracks playing from about late October to January 2nd I used to dread the period while working in home depot because instead of building beautiful Weber summit and genesis grills, i was told to just sell "Christmas merchandise" Well after failing at that i quickly switched to the chain saw tree cutting position which earned some insane tips.
FASTBACK340 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Sorry gang, my holiday excitement meter is flatlining..... Does absolutely nothing for me. I'd rather buy my Wife a gift or flowers randomly instead of coporate-fueled buy frenzies. My local Sears Hardware had X-mas decorations up last month..... That's nothing more than greed, NOT the "holiday" spirit. And my Wife isn't too crazy about this time of year either. Sorry, we just don't BUY into it.....
cobraman Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 While whispering sweet nothings about manufacturing in her ear? I see what you did there. Very funny.
