Ok so here is a project that I am very excited about! Building Junior Johnson's 1963 Holly Farms Impala. I took a 63' impala kit and am pretty much building the racecar from the ground up. I don't have too many pictures yet of the progress but here are a few...

This was my first ever attempt to cut a door off anything.

This will be an interesting project to watch! I have a soft spot for X-Frame Chevrolets and '60 and '63 Impalas are my favorites. I have wanted to build this car for some time, too, so I can't wait to see more. So far everything that you've done looks excellent. I will be following this build very closely, and try to gather as much information as possibly for my possible future build. Meanwhile I try to get going with my Z11 Impala Super Stock. B)

Thanks guys! I hope my work can do this car justice, and live up to your expectations. I just got some more pictures of my latest work. I'll also probably be posting the reference pictures that I'm going off of also. Here are some of the scratch built roll cage, weathered seat and dash, rear trunk work, and floorboard covering.

is that a big block chevy or small block your using

The way the headers are I would assume Big Block Chevy...

Since this is the 1963 impala, it had the Chevy 427 "mystery motor" big block

Here are a couple reference pictures I'm using...

However this one doesn't have any breathers.... I was mainly using this as a header reference ....

Very Nice! What did you use for weathering? That seat looks incredible, I have a couple of builds too that would need that kind of weathering, but I have never succeeded in that kind of weathering...

nice work,I'm working on several pre 70's racers...

what did you use for the floorboard covering...

Thanks guys! For the weathering I just used a black wash... Let it dry a little ... Then I lightly wet a brush and went over it... Then wiped off excess water and wash... I think it took me a couple of tries before I was satisfied with my work. Hope that helps!

And for the floorboard covering I used masking tape, painted it white, then went over it with a black wash

I WAS WONDERING WHEN THEY FIRST RACED THESE CARS THEY HAD FACTORY DOOR PANELS IN THEM.I REMEMBER SEEING A ARTICLE IN AUTOMOBLE MAGAZINE THAT SHOWED IT WITH FACTORY CHAMPAGNE GOLD SEAT DASH AND DOOR PANELS.THIS IS THE VERSION I PLAN ON DOING.I ALSO READ WHERE THE OTHER RAY FOX CARS SHORT TRACK OR SUPER SPEEDWAY CARS HAD BLUE INSIDES AND RED INSIDES IS THIS TRUE

Hey Bob, is that the car I sent you the headers for? Looks really nice so far. I do believe there were three different car with three different interior colors. By the middle of the year the factory interior panels had been removed and replaced with metal side panels. I had heard somewhere that the car with the red interior may have been the car that all the testing was performed in. It either went to Ray Fox, Jrs owner, or to Rex White. Keep the pic coming. Nice job so far.
