Ira Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) VIPER MX7! The MX7 is made from the Colonial Viper and the Big MPC X-Wing Fighter. The Viper was a Glue Bomb from the 70's, but it came apart very nicely. I will be using the Viper Engines and the main body, with the Detailed Cockpit, from the X-Wing. Here are the Viper Engines. The top center Intake is right behind the Cockpit. Seems like a loud and dangerous position... I am going to build the Viper MX7 with the Engines up-side down, like this... More Coming... Ira Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 BODY TOP! After some fitting and measuring I marked the rear sections to be removed. Next I cut off the sections with a cut-off wheel. After a little more fitting and measuring, I marked the front sections to be removed. Then I cut it them off with a cut off wheel. More Coming...

Ira Posted December 1, 2013 Author Posted December 1, 2013 TAILFIN! I decided to use the Viper Tailfin on the X-Wing Body. I cut 2 plastic strips to fit the recessed area and marked the spots where I will be cutting slots for the Tailfin. I used a cut-off wheel and cut out the slots. Then I glued in the plastic strips and opened up the slots a little more. Here is the Tailfin glued in place! More Coming...

Ira Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 A LITTLE TOO WIDE! The sides of the X-Wing Body cover parts of the upper intakes. So I decided to sand down the areas to make them fit. I also glued a small rectangle of plastic inside the area so I can Grind them down further. Here is the right side area after grinding & sanding. More Coming...
Ira Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 NOSE JOB! I glued the X-Wing Body halves together and then I cut off the Nose. The new Nose is a lot like the Viper Nose. Here is the X-Wing Front and the Viper Rear glued together. The body fits around the Intakes much better now. More Coming...
Ira Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 BELLY FIN! I made a Belly Fin Template from file card and then cut the shape out of sheet plastic. The Fin fits between the lower Engine and the underside of the Body. Here it is glued in place. More Coming...
Ira Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) NEW WING SHAPE! I decided to make Wing Extensions to connect the Viper Wings to the X-Wing Body. I cut these little ends off the Wings. I made a Template from file card and traced the shape on to sheet plastic. Here are the Plastic Wing Extensions. Here they are glued to the body only. Ira Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 FILLIN' & FITTIN'... After adding Plastic Shims and doing a little Bending, I got the Wings to line up just right. Then I glued them in place with Zap-A-Gap. Here you can see how shims were used to fill in and make the Body and Engine Unit fit together Nice & Tight! Here is the Viper with the Wings glued in place. More Coming...

I made File Card Templates for the Extensions and then traced the shapes on to plastic and cut them out. I glued them in place with Zap-A-Gap. Here is a the front Extension in place. Ira Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 BLENDING IT IN! I cut a piece of plastic to fit between the X-Wing and the Viper Bodies. After a little sanding and fitting I glued it in place. Next I cut and fit a couple more plastic pieces and glued them in place. More Coming...
