fantacmet Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Pretty good at lowering most of my models but I just picked up the old Revell Silverado and I want to drop it without losing detail, and I've never had any luck cutting the pins and raising them up. Anyone have any idea's or perhaps even the lowering parts from the lowered version they sold? Or resin copies thereof?
Skydime Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) I cut up the lower control arms behind the ends and mounted them further up on the frame. The front doesn't really do a good job of representing a true lowered suspension anyway so, you work have to work hard for realism. I'm working right now or I would get up and get it to take a picture. In the rear you may want to fab up some kind of lowering blocks or four link and c notch the frame a bit. fantacmet Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Yeah rear is easy. I wonder how much drop from flipping the spindles?
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Using styrene you can modify an existing frame and notch it like this...
Skydime Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) Yeah rear is easy. I wonder how much drop from flipping the spindles? Kit really doesn't have spindles on the lowered suspension. It's just some flat styrene with mounting tabs for the wheel backs. I got enough drop out of mine to mount 22s with the tops touching the bottoms of the fenders and the frame laying. EDIT http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=79652 There is my semi-abandoned build. You can't see the frame rails for my terrible photography but, they are laying. PS I am so surprised this hasn't been moved to trucks or questions yet. Edited December 4, 2013 by Skydime
fantacmet Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 I've got the regular one not the lowered one. So basically if I just flip the spindles in the regular truck they should be right up there and it should lay out like that? Not sure if I need it THAT low, but if not I can always drop a couple of o-rings and make it look bagged. I don't really like 20's so I don't plan on putting 20's on it but 16's or 18's would be perfect, but I gotta find just the right wheel/tire combo. I do intend to get another one and convert it to 4WD I have a wheel/tire combo here that I like and can cast resin copies of and intend to. In fact I am in the process of everytime I make a cast I take some of the leftover resin and fill up a little more of the hollow tire to make it nice and solid for a good mold when it's done. As far as being moved to trucks or questions, the trucks section I saw only big rigs and I couldn't find a questions section, but if it's there then by all means it should be moved to a questions area.

Oh, I dunno know about that one. Mine was the one that had the stupid ground effects and the lame roll pan with dual exhaust into it. Throw up some pics of what you got and I'll take a look. I'm sure some others might chime in if they see as well. As for the move, NP we all post in the incorrect section from time to time. I just wanted to let you know they may move it to pickups and light commercial on the work bench or the questions area. If it helps, questions is the topic sectioned off on the list with modelling tips.
fantacmet Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 I haven't started work on it yet except for the engine. So no pics yet. I kinda like the idea of the roll pan. I'm thinking of crating a rollpan for this. Though if I do I might wanna digup a Corvette rearend I can cannibalize to make that classic 90's look. I know I'm gonna go with hugger orange and black, with either a yellow or silver stripe in between but I can't figure whether to put the orange on top or bottom. HAHA. I need to pickup some of those old 454SS Pickup kits somewhere and recreate some OLD projects I did once. One thing I want to do for this that I don't know how and I don't want to botch it up is remove the grill parts and replace them with mesh, but I want the mesh even with the front of the rest of it and not recessed. I have some brass screen here that I could use, though not being PE not sure how well it would work.
