Danny Lectro Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 This kit is no longer providing me with ANY inspiration. Since I'm close to completion, I will finish as a straight OOB build, and then move on to something else. I had originally planned to do a flat clear-coat after panel-lining, but I decided not to bother. I also gave up on my plans to do two-toned paint on the pistols. I brush painted them with Testors gunmetal enamel, and highlighted the edges with Tamiya Weathering Master light gunmetal. The panel-lining on the light gray parts was done with Tamiya German Gray, heavily thinned with Windex. I then brushed Tamiya Weathering Master soot all over to highlight the edges. I have assembled the light gray parts around the frame wherever possible. The remaining parts will be airbrushed with Testors Navy Gloss Gray.
mustang1989 Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 I've reached that point with a couple of my builds here and there Danny and understand the dilema. Youre still doing a good job on this kit though.
Ira Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Control Deck! I needed to raise the height for the Flight Control Deck. First I traced the bottom of the Interior on to sheet plastic and cut it out. Then I cut the circle shape in half. Next I added 2 lengths of square plastic tubing and glued them in place as shown. Then I did a little Sanding & Fitting until I got a good fit in the Interior. Here is the Control Deck fit in place. Martian Test Fitting! Yep, that looks about right. More Coming...
Ira Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 The Door! I decided to make a Door to access the Gangplank and the rest of the Saucer. First I cut out a rectangle of sheet plastic to fit in the Cockpit. Then I sanded down the sides and bottom of the Door so it fits flush on the curves. Here it is in place. Next I cut 2 lengths of quarter round plastic strips and glued them to the Doors Sides to form the Door Frame. More Coming...
Zarana-X Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Did a little work on Sunday. No way am I gonna finish by the deadline, though.
Danny Lectro Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I've reached that point with a couple of my builds here and there Danny and understand the dilema. Youre still doing a good job on this kit though. Thanks, Joe!
mustang1989 Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Did a little work on Sunday. No way am I gonna finish by the deadline, though. Keep at it Jason. I may extend the deadline some. I have some room with this one pal. Thanks, Joe! No problem Danny.
mustang1989 Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Lookin' good this way Ira. Do you have a control console for in there any where?
Ira Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Dual Console! I cut this piece off the leftover half of the Raised Floor. Then I drew a cut line for the front of the Console. Here it is cut and sanded smooth. Then I glued it in place above the Raised Floor. Here are the Consoles from the UFOs for a Test Fit. More Coming... Lookin' good this way Ira. Do you have a control console for in there any where? Sure Do! Here it is...
Danny Lectro Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Hey Ira, I am really impressed with what you're doing. I need to keep in mind what you did to the interior. I have plans to convert a Pegasus Apollo 27 rocket from 1/72 to 1/144, and I was thinking I would have to scratch a new cockpit bucket to work. Doing something like what you've done will allow me to use the stock cockpit and make it a split level with an access door to the interior of the ship.
Ira Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Trim Rails... I cut a length of Half-Round Plastic Strip and glued it in from the Console around to the Door. I did the same for both sides. Next I cut another length of Half-Round Plastic Strip and glued it between the 2 Doors. More Coming...

I'm adding more Cockpit Details today, Photos Coming Soon...
Ira Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Red & Fuzzy! Since Martians drive barefoot I thought they might like some nice soft Carpet to stand on. So I applied Red Flocking on the Floors and half way up the Walls. Next I painted the Consoles and Trim with Tamiya Gold Leaf. More Coming...
mustang1989 Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 I like the carpeted area Ira! No computer monitor? lol
Ira Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I like the carpeted area Ira! No computer monitor? lol Thanks Joe! Cockpit Details Coming Soon...
Ira Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Cockpit Details! I found some great Cockpit Details on line. I copied them on to photo paper and then used 2-Sided Tape to hold them in place. Console Section. More Coming...

Zarana-X Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Got some pretty good progress done this weekend. I'm overdue for new pics, but I have to charge the batteries first, and I always forget to do that beforehand. So many seams to fill... . Building an articulated mech is one thing, a multi-colored transforming mech is a nightmare. (I have at least 4 more in my stash) So many moving parts. If I wan't trying to do a good job, I'd be done, but I want to do this justice, even though it will be weathered to cover up what sins I can. The arms are pretty much finished except for some touch ups, started on the legs. Oh, and the decal sheet...its old, I sprayed it with clearcoat just to be safe, even though it looks new. (it was sealed in its own bag!) I need to put some decals on the landing gear I won't be able to after the legs are assembled. Edited January 19, 2015 by Zarana-X
wrecker388 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I might as well pull out now. I'm sick and haven't touched the tank for a month. My parents have a new freezer coming this week, so no time this. And my airbrush was still screwy the last time I used it even if I got the tank built in time the paint would probably bite. Sorry guys.
mustang1989 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Sounds like some pics worth seeing there Jason! Looking forward to it. Riley: Been there and done that before so don't feel bad. I thank you for posting the news though. I ran a Fw190 Group Build on another site and had between 45-50 participants and half of those just vanished with no warning or another post. It's one of those things one has to factor in when doing a Group Build as far as the number of builds and participants at the close of the GB. At least there's good folks who are kind enough to let the host know though and there's something to be said for that pal. Thanks for posting that.
Danny Lectro Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) Finally finished (I had to wait for some new filters for my spray-booth before I could paint the final parts). When I look at this, all I can think is, "Meh." Not only did I have issues with the build, I no longer really care for the design of this mecha, either. I think it may have been meant as a parody of anime robots, especially the super-deformed-style-Reaper-drone-as-flight-pack, and the "frills" on the shoulders. I'm not sure why I chose this kit in the first place, I think it may have been a bit less expensive the the much-cooler-looking ground-combat type mechas from this kit line. However, no matter how much cooler some of the other kits in this line may look, I think the problem I had with this kit has turned me off from the Frame Arms line of kits completely. She would have looked a lot better with a matte finish, but like I said before, I just stopped caring. I think I'll finally pull out a car for my next build. I recently started removing the mold-lines from the body of my '49 Ford Coupe custom, it looks like it should be a fun kit. Edited January 26, 2015 by Danny Lectro
mustang1989 Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 You know I've had a build or two that went that way Danny. Somewhere in the middle of it I just wanted it done and off my bench. I will say that you've done a good job on this build with that mindset though. Hang in there bubba and I'm looking forward to that 49 Ford of yours! I'll get a picture posted in the intro when I get home tonight Danny. Which pic do you want me to post?
