Daddyfink
Jesse I think I just relived that moment of your childhood but with the George Follmer Trans am Javelin. This puppy was sealed until this morning when I finally opened him after arguing with myself about breaking the seal. The decals are like new, the tires are almost fresh, the chrome didn't wear through any wheres, and the body is fresh from the molds. You couldn't ask for a cleaner vintage kit, much less a johan And here it is with it's brother . Yup! That's the one! Thanks for the memory!
checkmate
Never really got that many kits for Christmas as a kid, the only one I really remember getting was the Monogram 1/16 Kenworth Aerodyne it was moulded in MetalGlow and was a metallic bluey colour. I got my to boys Snaptite 1/32 Mack fire truck and Kenworth T600 this year to get them into the hobby they're only 5 and 7 so hopefully they come onboard with the hobby. Dragline
About 1976 I got a big scale Lola Ford. Not sure whatever happened to it. I know it was too much for me at the time. Bob
kingiguana
I don't have any one specific kit. But when I was 14 ( Im 49 now ) I got a bunch of kits for Christmas. some of the ones I remember are Monogram's 66 Malibu, one in red and the black one too. Amt 63 Vette, AMT Coors 1/25th Tractor Trailer set. ERTL's Diecast Trans AM, a motorized submarine kit ( Normally I only built automotive ) and so many car truck kits I cant remember them all. Back then, I built them out of the box, no detailing, and very little painting, and no mold line removal. So, they were all built bu the end of Chrstmas vacation. ZTony8
It was the Big T for me,Christmas 1962.I was eight.Dad built it for me even though I was already building my own 1/25 scale kits. A close second would be the first kit I ever got for Christmas-an AMT 1960 Buick hardtop,Christmas 1959.I was five.

Man those presents where huge!!!! I think that was back in 84 or so. Edited December 26, 2013 by mustang1989

Speedfreak
The one I just got. AMT Double Dragster 'Special Edition' Tin. By far the coolest kit I've 'ever' recieved. Another nice note; Everything in the kit is flawless, no tire, or , valve cover issues! All the parts trees look clean, very little flash. They got this one right! I can't wait to start working on this kit, I'm already working out ideas in my head.

bbowser
1/8 scale Corvette Stingray, I think it was Monogram, I was 10 or 12 back in the '60's. I painted it blue to match my father's daily driver. He finally sold it a couple of years ago, he's in his '80s. Great memories
ToyLvr
I don't recall ever getting a model for Christmas but I remember getting a Crusader 101 ! It was in 1964 and was the best present I ever got !! Yup, the Crusader 101 was the best! Still have mine... I cannot recall getting too many model kits for Christmas; those usually came as birthday presents. However, I do remember receiving the IMC "Little Red Wagon" from my older sister. It was a cool vehicle, and the kit was fun to build...
1972coronet
Tough call between two kit , one year apart : 1.) 1985 Mustang SVO , Christmas 1984 . Mum bought it for me along with a spray can of Testors dark blue metallic . 2.) 1985 Corvette 1/8 scale , Christmas 1985 . Paternal grandmother bought it for me from Hinshaw's ( an upscale department store with only two locations ; Whittier and Arcadia ). It was an expensive kit , too ! She probably gave $50.00- $60.00 for it , which was huge money in 1985 ! Both represent sentimental value . The SVO and that blue metallic paint ; blue officially became my favourite colour at that moment . First kit that I ever had to prime-coat ! Going from red to blue was no small feat for me neophyte capabilities . The Corvette . What can I say ? I wanted that kit since its release , but couldn't afford it on my meager mow-lawns-and-perform-odd-chores-around-the-neighbourhood budget ! My friend whom hailed from a well-heeled family got his "Big-A@@" 'Vette with zero effort .
jaydar
Not Joe. But it was / is Monogram or Revell/Monogram. It may be still available. Right, it was re-released. It would now carry the Revell brand. It would scale out at either 1/24 or 1/32. Joe.

Me, too! First time my parents succumbed to my addiction and actually bought me a model kit (for Christmas). Awesome kit, at that! Craig Irwin
It's been decades since I've got a model car for Christmas but the two that stand out are a 1960 Chevy wagon, molded in blue and a curbside, (craftsman kit?) and a few years later the Monogram 1940 Ford pick-up first issue molded in a greenish blue. (or maybe a blueish green!)
