Len Woodruff Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) I ran out of the regular CA Super Glue I get from the hobby shop so I picked up some Gorilla Super Glue at the grocery store. The Gorilla glue doesn't list CA on it so I am wondering if it is the same? Edited December 25, 2013 by Len Woodruff
Mercman Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Not sure on this one, but I know you need to wet the other-reg. Gorilla glue to get it to work.
Len Woodruff Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 Not sure on this one, but I know you need to wet the other-reg. Gorilla glue to get it to work. Doesn't say anything about wetting the surface, it does say it is not for polyethylene or polypropylene plastics. What kind of plastic are the kits made out of?
Tom Geiger Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I wouldn't chance it. Back when I tried regular Gorilla Glue to remount a soap dish in my tub tile. I didn't know the stuff expanded as it dried and I later had to chisel off this ceramic soap dish that had bulged out and twisted. It was glued there real good though! If you're looking for cheap CA, try Michaels. They sell Zap-A-Gap, which I prefer as a CA since it has some substance to it. Using a 40 or 50% off coupon it's like $2-3.00 and that's cheap enuf for me!
Eshaver Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Gorilla is really a product name . Yes, Gorilla makes a CA glue . In addition, they also manufacture a Urethane type of water proof adhesive . Now to clarify, their C A actually specifies so on the label .
Kit Basher Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) It could be CA. Gorilla glue has several different glues under their brand name, including white glue, in addition to their original polyurethane glue. If it doesn't say CA on the label, tho, maybe not...??? Oops, Ed beat me to it. What he said. Edited December 25, 2013 by Kit Basher

Bill Eh? Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Len, Gorilla Glue is not the same. Would not recommend it for models. I have used it, and it expands as it cures.
Modelmartin Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Gorilla Glue is amazingly strong and easy to use but I could not think of a worse glue for model building!
Len Woodruff Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 Merry Christmas to everyone who replied! Thanks again for the fast response. Back to drinking Mimosa's with breakfast!
ScaleDale Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 This is from the Material Safety Data Sheet for the product. It is CA. That said, all CA isn't equal, and most of the over the counter stuff isn't as good for modeling as the generic CA from hobby shops or on-line. Chillyb1 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I'm going to disagree with everyone saying you shouldn't use this stuff. I love it. It is an excellent adhesive that is easy to use, sets reasonably quickly, and makes a strong but slightly flexible bond.
Steven Zimmerman Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I use the superglue bought at Walmart; 4 tubes for about a buck and a half, been using about a tube a week and it works just fine. I have found just about everything "GORILLA GLUE" markets is good stuff, if you just follow the directions.

Exotics_Builder Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) Mine says it is Polyurethane Adhesive not CA so I must have a different product. Yep. The Super Glue from Gorilla Glue says it on the package and tube. They also sell a poyurethane waterproof glue that needs one side wet to set and does expand. That one is NOT good for modeling and it sounds like that is what you got. I use their super glue for assembly and it works well. The package I get has two small tubes. One tube is good for a model as it thickens over time. Edited December 25, 2013 by Exotics_Builder
ScaleDale Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Mine says it is Polyurethane Adhesive not CA so I must have a different product. If it isn't CynoAcrylate it isn't CA. Dale
Ridge Rider Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I have had good results with their CA glue. I purchased a .053 ounce bottle several years ago Michaels for a few dollars with 40% coupon. The nice thing about the plastic bottle is I can take the lid off and dip a toothpick or such. It's less waste, no clogged tips, and no dried out half used tubes I have used it dozens of times over the years and still have a half bottle left. I wouldn't be scared of it but as pointed out make sure it's CA.
Len Woodruff Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 Thanks for everyone's feedback on this glue.
