I've seen hood scoops on '71 340 Dusters body color and matte black, was this a matter of 'customer preference' or did they come from the factory one way or the other?

Well, I painted them body color 'cause the hood's not matte black. So, it's got a six-pack and a body colored hood with body colored scoops. It's gonna look great I think.

Is there any place that sells photo etch stuff for '71 Duster 340?

Only a Duster with the "Twister" package had hood scoops in 1971. If you saw a factory '71 Duster 340 with any hood scoop(s), it was/they were added later, and not factory installed.

I don't think so. Model Car Garage offers three p/e sets for Plymouths, but the AMT '71 Duster isn't one of them.

I've already drilled the holes in the hood, looks like this car has 'dealer' installed hood scoops. That's ok, 'cause it's got a Chrysler Engine Red block and orange manifold and air cleaner, because I screwed up the second time in applying the '340 Four Barrel' decal on the air cleaner, so , I siad " guess what? This car has a six-pack now!

Did the 340 come with 'hood pins? Many of the pics I see have them.

Hood Pins were an option , even on 198 /6 powered models .

As Casey stated , the Duster 340 wasn't available from the factory with the hood scoops , only its "look-alike" the Twister (the Demon 340 look-alike was called "Sizzler" ; just an FYI) had the scoops (and special "Twister" hood paint treatment).

In order to *correctly* replicate the factory appearance of the scoops :

- Black scoops had Organasol [sp] painted trim at their openings

- Body-colour scoops had plated trim (not sure if the trim was chrome-plated pot metal of if it was stainless . Not impairative in 25th scale ;) ) .
