FASTBACK340 Posted November 2, 2014 Author Posted November 2, 2014 OK, so 6 months have passed. Time to get this puppy back on the workbench! I'm cleaning up a few minor details on the replica of my `68 `Cuda, then we dive back into this `70. Quick re-cap: FM3 Pink convertible w/ White interior. I have a majority of the paint work done except for the body, which is un-touched. Most of the silly detailing is done. I must finish this before I touch the Baja. That's my discipline I hope I can maintain. Hopefully update pictures by tomorrow night.
426-Hemi Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 ALL the work LOOKS awesome, BUT my question is, (I did not real ANYWHERE in the posting) what is the Plymouth Moulon Rouge or Doge Panther Pink, come from? WHO made it, what brand? Lacquer or Acrylic? LOVE the Hemi details added!
FASTBACK340 Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 (edited) I never installed the radiator cap, overflow hose & bottle. Plus the coil & master cylinder came loose from it's trip to NNL East. Give her a few touch-up's on the drip rail trim and back window, and we're ready for the LIARS show next weekend. Now onto the `70…... Edited November 3, 2014 by FASTBACK340
FASTBACK340 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 Yes, the thread that will not die…. I finally whacked the roof off the `Cuda last night. Once the header panel is trimmed and finished she get's painted. Just about everything else has been painted and ready for 7 months…... I test fitted the chassis. WOW what a tight fit! Here's a reminder of the color choice…...
Mopar - D Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 John glad to see you back on the 70 Cuda. I saw your 68 in the magazine congrad's !!
Randy D Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Hi John, Good to see you making progress The 68 is excellent. Wonderful detailing and really like the period look. Randy
Mopar - D Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 John Heres a 71 to give you some encouragement on your build. Picture is from the Hemi Hideout just out side of Houston.
FASTBACK340 Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 Thanks guys! For the next 6 months I'll hopefully crank out a few builds. This Cuda is first since it's been waiting forever. It is painted except for the body. I just got home but I plan on spending tomorrow night building. And thanks for the comments on the '68. That's my baby ...,,,, :-)
FASTBACK340 Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Finally got the windshield header & wheel well lips taken care of. Now it's in the booth with a coat of etching primer flashing-out. Hopefully a fast scuff and it'll get a white primer base-coat in preparation for color later this afternoon. Now I'm going to put the chassis together. Be back later…...
Randy D Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Hi John, Nice progress !! Question on the primer, what is the etching primer and what is it's function ?? Randy P.S. I will have you know my friend that I have been updating the Wrecker since Oct. :D I am no longer a slacker !!!!
FASTBACK340 Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 I use SEM etching primer. It gets a really good bite into the material. I've had good results as it goes on thick enough to sand, but not obscure detail. Once I get it level I'll shoot some Tamiya white primer, then the Pink. Good to hear you've been working on the wrecker. It's an awesome piece of workmanship much like Bill's Hemi Cuda.
FASTBACK340 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 So after letting it ferment for a year, I started assembling the chassis and suspension tonight. I have a busy day tomorrow, but I'm going to try and get the body ready for paint. Not much left…… shame to let it rot in the box.
mustang1989 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Ya know John, you could always add more.... Swap out that resistor you're using for a fuel line and filter for one of these super cool neato Switching Diodes available at Radio Shack....they even look like they have gas in them! Backtracking just a smidge here..........That idea for using the resistor with the leads is an excellent idea!!! I happen to have a couple. Will be using that for my next build. This build going on in here rocks!!! Great detail John!
FASTBACK340 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks for the encouragement. Been a bad build season for me so far. I've been so busy with 1:1 stuff I'm neglecting the little ones. Bad weather headed this way. Looks like I'll have a snow day or two to build.....
FASTBACK340 Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) John glad to see you back at this one. And with the blizzard that's being predicted for Long Island I'll have plenty of bench time this week! Edited January 26, 2015 by FASTBACK340
