Yes. I know this post is old, but it may get some play again (hopefully). I am painting a car Candy Purple Dynamite, but I am conducting some tests first on extra plastic bodies etc. First I used the Black Backer (High Gloss) then the Candy and it still just looks black. I tried the Duplicolor white primer first and it is just too purple, good color, but not what I am after. Third I tried a gray primer and it looks way too dark, almost pure black as well. Next up I will try the Silver Metallic backer to see if I can get the purple a little darker than "stock", but not too dark. Has anyone tried the Silver? I am trying to match a tribute car and the color "appears" to be a Candy Purple on the real car. The Spaz Stix paint looks great and will probably suffice if I can get the right backer/primer. All of the reseach found Lexan projects which paint the backer last on the inside of the clear car. My model is not clear to start with. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanx.

You want to paint it silver first, and use something that will stand up to the lexan paint- I've used Pactra RC car paint that way with good results (candy purple over silver, then clearcoated with duplicolor clear)

Next up Silver Metallic backer. Does more coats of the Candy Purple make it "purpler"? Thanx for responding.

Yes, more coats will make it purpler up to a certain point- then any further coats start to obscure the reflective undercoat and the candy effect is lost, resulting in a drab and muddy appearance. Don't do that ;)

Also make sure your primer will hold up to the silver backer- I'd apply several light mist coats rather than a wet coat

I put quite a bit of paint on this, there's also a misting of purple pearl over the candy purple

Good luck with it!

Thanx for the response. Your car looks great, but hopefully mine will be much darker, as it needs to be. As I said the black backer just made the car black after the purple was sprayed on, just one coat for testing. I was going to use Duplicolor white primer, then the Silver Metallic (lightly as you suggested) followed by a couple coats of the Candy Purple Dynamite. Would a black flat primer before the Silver Metallic backer make the end result darker or not affect it at all?  Thanx.
