Danno Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Ah!....So the reports of Dan's model building demise have been greatly exaggerated! Very nice looking build, Dan! Very much so, Aaron! LOL. Thanks for the tip of the hat.
Danno Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Nice job Danno. I built one of these several years ago as a Mass State Police car. Nice kit despite some inaccuracies like the boss 429 and chassis. There's a website called policecarmodels.com that can provide much more accurate scale goodies for you police car projects in the future. Lights, sirens, radios etc. The owners name is Jeff. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Thanks, Jay! You're right, policecarmodels.com is a great resource. However, they don't offer accurate 1/25 Federal 14 beacons and Federal 100 sirens, either. In fact, there is no source for the correct beacons other than the hard-to-find Yodel kits, and there's only two decent siren speakers in scale for that era, the Yodel kits again, and the speaker in the "Cop Out" funny car kit. Because I wanted to stick to IPMS Out of Box rules, I couldn't use the better equipment on this one. Glad you liked it, in spite of its shortcomings.
Bill J Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Nice looking build Dan! Saw a few of those in my day, never in the rearview though:)
Danno Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) Thanks, Dave! Hey, Bill, Thank you, too! Whereabouts in the Valley do you hang? Edited February 24, 2014 by Danno
Guest Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Well done! Book em Danno! Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Chris White Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 ok that is just plain cool !!!!!!Nice build Danno
Harry P. Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Not exactly an "expected" color for a cop car, but you guys out there in the desert do things differently. Nice model.
John Teresi Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Danno……nice job……..hope to see this next month on the club table.
Rob Hall Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Nice clean build..I plan to do one of mine as an Ohio Highway Patrol car..
Edsel-Dan Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I have a few of these to play with too I also don't care for those Too Modern Strobe beacons in the kit You do know the light rack in the Yodel kits is a copy of the OLD Jo-Han piece??!! I have the LAPD Monaco kit. There is one major difference between the 2. Jo-Han tooled the rack in 1 piece with the Rotator bases as separate parts, while the Yodel kit has the Mounts separate from the bar but the Beacon bases molded in-place on it!!!! I would Love to find SEVERAL of them to use!!! Too bad Yodel has not re-issued them in so long. They go TOO high anymore!!$60.oo-75.oo++ now!!! I paid Less that $12.oo for mine WAY back when!!!!! Did you think about Scratch-Building the correct beacons?? Also, The 4-beam cast to the roof of the Monogram/Revell MACK CF pumper is a good candidate for 1/24-1/25 vehicles. I know, I put one on my JD 310 backhoe
Danno Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Well done! Book em Danno! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Thanks, Lee. *It's not like I've never heard that one before! In fact, that's how the nickname attached itself to me. I more felony arrests than my peers and the jailers started calling me 'Book 'em, Danno.'
Danno Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 ok that is just plain cool !!!!!!Nice build Danno Thank you, Chris.

Thanks, Harry. That's quite a compliment coming from an exquisite builder such as yourself! Yeah, we do things differently out here . . . we have to! Constantly dodging Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner and all their shenanigans! And, then there's those pesky haboobies! PS: We can have white cars, too! We don't have to worry about losing them in snowstorms!! Danno Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Cool Thank you. Danno……nice job……..hope to see this next month on the club table. Thanks, John! Okay. See you at DSC, my friend. I know you'll have some excitement on the table. I'll try to have some surprises on the club table! *Of course, anything finished would be a surprise from me, huh?
Danno Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) I had to come back for a second look Thanks, Dave. I hope it stands up to further scrutiny! Nice clean build..I plan to do one of mine as an Ohio Highway Patrol car.. Thanks, Rob. I still have a few of these and haven't figured out what to do with them all. One interesting tidbit . . . the Galaxie has the same wheelbase as the '70 Mercury Montereys that CHP used, and most of the dimensions are within an inch or so between the two cars, other than overhang. Roofline is the same and general body shape is very close . . . hmmmmmmmm ........ Edited February 25, 2014 by Danno

The NYPD style equipment is so completely identified with that iconic kit, that the Visi-Bar and beacons have kind of slipped out of mainstream knowledge. I've got to check into another of those kits again!
Danno Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Very nice classic looking patrol car. Thank you, Bob.

Danno Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 You guys out there live in a whole 'nother world! True dat. You don't even know . . . how true dat.
Erik Smith Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 True dat. You don't even know . . . how true dat. I drove through AZ last year up near Payson - the State Patrol was doing some sort of commercial truck emphasis/sting operation - I have never seen so many Patrol vehicles in one place! Over 100 patrol vehicles pulling over and inspecting big rigs all over the highway. Haven't seen that anyplace else.
Harry P. Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Well, I'm standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona... such a fine sight to see...
