realgone58 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Just finished this one up, what a nightmare kit to build, and somewhat crude in the engine compartment, but I'm still thankful we have these old AMT annual Matadors. This one is a '75 that I've converted to a base Matador, instead of the Matador X. The color is a pretty much dead on match to AMC Green Apple. Interior is two tone beige, under the hood is the stock AMC 360-2bbl V-8, all I did was add wires and dist. I used old Firestone Supreme white walls, with full wheel covers that are a close match to the stock AMC caps that no one ever made in scale. I have more time in getting everything lined up on the front end on this kit, than I have in BMF. Hope you guys enjoy this wacky '70's bone stock Mat.
kelson Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Very different but I like it alot! great job!
jeffs396 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Nice job Al Good to see an AMC once in a while!
Porscheman Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Beautiful build of a car that didn't save AMC.
Baugher Garage Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 One of the ugliest cars of all time - and one of the finest finished projects! Nice work!!
Tom99 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 (edited) Nice! Edited February 27, 2014 by Tom99
Modelbuilder Mark Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Always nice to see something different, a very nice job indeed! I built the bobby allison matador as a kid, and then used it as a smash up derby years later. ALways thought it was a different kind of cool.
Guest Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Now that's a Matador! Sorry, couldn't resist! Very nice, but don't let Harry see it, you forgot mirrors!
Lovefordgalaxie Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 First class all the way. Perfect color choice too!!
LongRoofNut Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Looking at this I can hear "The Hustle" by Van Mcoy. I have had this kit for years and that goofy fit problem just ticks me off so I just stop. Maybe by next decade I will get a few steps closer. Great work!
slusher Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Great build Al. Remember our neighbor bought one new in white in Chicago....
Harry P. Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Now that's a Matador! Sorry, couldn't resist! Very nice, but don't let Harry see it, you forgot mirrors! I just saw it. And you are absolutely correct! I don't think even one single factory-stock Matador came off the assembly line without any mirrors.
Erik Smith Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Great looking model! I like the conversion back to base. Cool.
realgone58 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Mirrors, mirrors, I'll pay for a bag full 'o mirrors.
Sixties Sam Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Very well done! AMC made some nice cars. Good work on the Matador! Sam
Harry P. Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 One of the ugliest cars of all time... I think it's one of AMC's best looking cars!
