bigbluesd Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 On the iPad so I will be brief... I want to tackle building my first car, any ideas as to what I could use as a base? An 89 ranger would make it easy but I haven't seen any kits or resins of this model...
highway Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Rangers are even a tough find, I think the only ones were the early to mid 90s Splash and regular bed Rangers were the only small Ford trucks made other than the old 70s Courier. The only other closest thing I could think of to get you close to a Bronco II is the Lindberg 1/20 Explorer Sport, it appears to me as the front end might not need much or any modification, just the back half. Here's a link to the ebay listing I got the pic of the kit from: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lindberg-Ford-Explorer-Sport-1-20-model-Kit-NEW-UNASSEMBLED-/360890422495?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item5406bed4df
Fabrux Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 The Explorer and the Bronco II are so different it would be quite difficult. There have never been any kits of Rangers 83-92 nor any Bronco IIs. You'lol have to look for diecasts or simplified toys as a starting point, or completely scratch build one like that bloke building the Aussie Falcon. The AMT 93 Ranger and 95 Explorer would provide an excellent base as the chassis didn't change throughout the Ranger's run.
bigbluesd Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Yes, the Explorer is much different but it would at least be a start. I just wish it were in 1/24 or 1/25, my OCD wouldn't let me build it at 1/20. I have only found one diecast Bronco and it was 1/64, if I could find a Ranger from the previous generation I think I could make it work as well, with a new grill they weren't all that different. Scratch building would be fun but I am definitely not capable of what that guy is doing with the Falcon! Edited March 31, 2014 by bigbluesd
bigbluesd Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 I did manage to find this, I guess it's a start
Rob Hall Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) I remember looking into this about 20 years ago when I had an '88 Bronco II and giving up, it would have to be pretty much completely a scratchbuilt. Edited March 31, 2014 by Rob Hall
