magicmustang Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) Here's a couple of my 1964 funny cars. Jack Chrisman's '64 Comet (the decals are from Badlands in Canada). Also Arnie Beswick's '64 GTO. Picked up a built 1964 Dodge Chargers on Epay. Disassembled it, made several changes, added new chassis and engine bay, redid engine, repaint lower front panel, hand cut blue stripes, redid interior, etc. I know the side decals were placed wrong on the original but I did not redo them, I just modified them. Always felt I needed a Dodge Chargers to go with Chrisman's Comet and Beswick's GTO. Story was that Chrisman would show up at the drag strips where the Dodge Chargers were running each other and challenge them but they were told by Chrysler not to do it. Jimmy Nix was going to modify the #2 car and drop in a supercharged Hemi on nitro, but it never came about. Let me know what you think. Edited February 26, 2015 by magicmustang
Daddyfink Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Nice set! I always wanted to do these two and this is great inspiration! Thanks!
John Pol Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Really great job love the GTO always wanted to do that one
Terminator-Fox Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Both look great. I'm a big Arnie fan, was that a kit?
Steve Prideaux Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Two great cars and two very nice builds. Great job and thanks for sharing them with us.
magicmustang Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) The Arnie GTO started out as a Polar lights snap kit '64 GTO Hdtp. With some scratch building, the spare parts box and Slixx decals it came together. The Chrisman Comet started as a AMT Craftman kit. It took a lot of scratch building to do it justice. The decals were the hardest parts to find. A company out of Canada (Bad Habit motorsports) made some, but I believe they are now out of business. Edited April 2, 2014 by magicmustang
W-409 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Two very nice builds on great subjects! They both look very good overall and they have the old Race Car's look and feel...Excellent work! Where are the GTO's front tires from? They look perfect for Drag Cars from this era.
2lapsdown Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Great job on both. I love the way these builds bring back the past and preserve some of the history of the sport. John
10thumbs Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Gerald, good looking models! I'm still nuts about the early AFX cars, the Super Stocks anyway. What an era and the cars and imagination of the builders was and still is stunning. I like them both. Michael
magicmustang Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 The Gto front tires were from the spare tires box. They are Goodyear Red lines (I put the red stripe inside) from one of my 60's kits Check out my 25T Altered kit of Charlie Smith's from 1964. I need help with the decals.
gasser59 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Nice job on them both. Don't make me choose a favorite.
D. Battista Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 2 NICE looking models..! Like 'em both...!
High octane Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Fred Cady used to offer those Mystery Tornado decals that you see on the GTO.
