StevenGuthmiller Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) Another one of my recent early '60s builds. This is an AMT 1961 Pontiac Bonneville convertible. This one is bone stock. Added a set of 8-lug wheels from a '65, but other than that..... It's painted with MCW '61 correct "Jewel Blue". I just love this color! I couldn't believe how it "popped" in the sunlight. Interior is tri-tone, (actually quad-tone) white, silver & two shades of blue. The motor is box stock except for the usual plumbing & wiring & I added an air cleaner from a Monogram '59 Impala kit. Closest I could find to a stock Pontiac unit. Steve Edited April 24, 2018 by StevenGuthmiller
Sixties Sam Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Very unusual and very nice! It's great to see these rare old kits being built so well. Nice work! Sam
Speedfreak Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Steve, that is Beautiful! Wow! What a great build! You're right about it popping in the sunlight, it doesn't even look like the same paint inside. What a stunner, I'm stunned.
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Thanks guys! I agree Gene. When I looked at the photos side by side I thought the same thing! Steve
om617 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Beautiful car and model. Very nice detail on the engine and suroundings.
peekay Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Gorgeous!!! One of my favourite 60s designs and a beautifully built model.
am73grand Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 That is GORGEOUS!!!!!!! Nice clean build of a beautiful car!
TFchronos Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) Very nice, the color looks perfect on the car. Edited May 1, 2014 by TFchronos
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Thanks guys! Yes Lee, the rear window is missing. These Amt Convertible annuals from this period never came with the rear glass for the up-tops. At the time that I finished the build, I hadn't made one & I still haven't gotten around to it. One of these days I'll make one for it. Steve
dino246gt Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I just love it, simply gorgeous, great work, fantastic model!
John Goschke Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) Drop dead gorgeous from every angle! Any chance we could see some interior shots? I'm pretty sure that Chevy air cleaner is correct for this car and other Tri-Power Pontiacs back to at least '59 and was used on other multi-carb GM cars. Probably the bottom half only would've been unique to each application. Love your work! Edited May 1, 2014 by John Goschke
realgone58 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Awesome build! Great color choice! I just may do my '61 Bonneville hardtop in that blue.
