408calirides Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Ok here's another project that i've had in my stash for over a year and brought it out occasianly when i got in the mood to work on it. I had bought the resin cab 54 abd removed the grille and was gonna chrome it and work on the resin cab, but after looking at it i decided why not try and use the 50 chevy cab for better plastic fitment and make my own 54. So little by little i had worked on it from an old spare 50 cab i had and started from the grille work back. So today i brought in with me to work and got back into it. Here is were i'm at on it so far. Reworking the front fenders, windshield, upper vent and fixing some cracks the cab had. I will also be making the correct rear bed sides as the 54 had them flat tops.
Longbox55 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 There's a way to save yourself a bit of work with the bed, use the bed from the AMT '55/'57 Stepside kit. The bed, other than the fenders, is correct for a '54-'87 Stepside.

bpletcher55 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 ISMAEL ,where would one get the grill that you are using , I have wanted to build a 54 for a long time ,
408calirides Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 ISMAEL ,where would one get the grill that you are using , I have wanted to build a 54 for a long time , I cut off the grill from the resin 54 cab I got bout a year ago. The cab and grille was all a one piece cab. At the time I wanted to chrome the grille so I cut it off with sewing string.
TooOld Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Great looking work so far ! That '54 grille does look pretty cool , do you remember where you bought the resin cab ?
Longbox55 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Just to throw this out there, the same grille, along with the bed I mentioned, can also be used to build a '55 First Series Chevrolet truck. They are for the most part, identical to the 54s, with only a few minor detail changes. Also, for anyone wanting to build a replica stock '54/'55 first, you will want to use the steering wheel from the AMT '55 Cameo/Stepside instead of the one from the '50.
misterNNL Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Do you remember who the resin caster was that made the '54 cab you bought?I'd like to have one to work with.

It's funny how when you see someone post a 1:1 54 CHEVY TRUCK with that 47-53 5 bar grille and they say to them selves," thats not a 54" lol, but those who know there trucks like mentioned above. there was a 54 FIRST SERIES with that 5 bar grille and yeah some stuff was changed.

misterNNL Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Please show us how you "cut the grille off with sewing thread".I have never heard of that being done before.
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 If you scribe with the back of an exacto until you break through the plastic, you can use sewing thread and thread it through the hole and run it back and forth along the plastic and it acts as a saw cutting through, but more like a hot knife cutting through butter...
NOBLNG Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 (edited) The OP stated that he got it off of e-bay and he has not posted anything on here for about 4-1/2 years…so I doubt you will get an answer. Edited May 13, 2022 by NOBLNG
