Holy smokes Kyle.  That is impressive!

Thank Jim. Natural stones are probably my favorite event. You have to be strong, and smart. Every stone is different. You have to learn how to read the stone.

Late afternoon 5-mile hike. After sporadic work over several months, I'm finally getting back to something kinda like "fitness".

Still a long way to go, but I'm getting there.

Every time I let myself go, it takes longer to get back. Probably ought to stay with it this time, 'cause I'm not real sure I can ever get back if I slip again.

That's a huge reason i compete in Strongman. The comp's give me a reason to keep training. "Staying fit" isn't enough for my brain. But signing up for a comp 2 or 3 months out gives me solid training goals.

Same as when I used to run. I'd sign up for 5k runs, just to give me the drive to keep training.

I have a great deal of respect for what you do, but at this point in time, I'll settle for being fit enough to do a moderately challenging 15-mile hike and not be crippled the next day, like I could in my 40s and 50s.

I'll call that a win in my mid 70s, and a worthwhile goal to maintain it if I can get all the way back.  :D

Came out of the garage just in time to see a good sized spider sailing across the yard on a silk thread, probably launched from one of the big pines. As soon as I focused on it, a big dragonfly swooped in and nailed it B)

Nature is awesome.

Was disappointed not to have seen any fireflies this year. There really is something profound in the line from the old Dirt Band tune that goes 'city lights ain't all that bright compared to what it's like, seein' lightning bugs go dancin' in the rain'

I haven't been around much for over a month due to my work schedule but the summer camp that my school bus company is under contract with wrapped up all activities on Thursday. I was also involved with charter work on some weekends. I'm now on a four day weekend until school resumes next Tuesday. For now, I'm doing absolutely nothing but relax. And my poor school bus will be in the shop getting checked by our crack mechanic.

Busy weekend.

Friday was night one of the Metallica No Repeat Weekend concerts here in town. Pantera and Mammoth WVH opened. It was in our football stadium, and the weather was a beauty summer evening.

Saturday, was raining and spent the day playing body shop. Took apart the Tahoe and got most of it back together. Sourced a new used hood, fender, bumper, bumper brackets, filler pieces, grille, lighting. Sanding, smoothed, and repainted everything that needed it. Had to hammer out the rad support to make it straight, and used the redneck straightening tool on the rad support/body mount on the front...tow rope and my truck, gave it a couple of yanks. Got the fender and the hood on, everything lined up perfectly. Bumper and lighting tonight. Although I dropped the grille and scratched it, so need to repaint it again.  Still need to do a final polish and put the side trim and wheel arch trim back on.

Sunday was night two of the Metallica weekend. Another full concert, with Metallica playing a completely different setlist. Again, weather was awesome.

Fun...I did two concerts back to back in June-- a Friday night Robert Plant & Allison Krauss show in Toledo and the Rolling Stones here in Cleveland on Saturday at the Browns Stadium...I was beyond exhausted the Sunday after....at 54 I don't have the stamina I had at 35...

Truth be told, this was Saturday night, got to a very remote camping spot.  Being able to do this is a blessing, I'm doing it while I can.  I know this looks ghetto, but it works.  Watched one heck of a lightning show in the distance, got some rain during the night.

Beginning of last month, I impulse purchased a metal lathe. Yesterday I finished getting it situated, getting the necessary tooling, and did my first project on it. It will get used mostly for telescope projects, but making some wheels comes to mind as well. It's going to be a nice addition to my shop.

Looks like heaven to me. Cost-effective and functional. What's not to love?  :D

EDIT: It's a great reminder that it's not necessary to spend a ton of money on gear and a tricked-out 4WD to get out there.

Got some much needed work done to the farm this week.

First replaced broken rooftiles on the barn, i thougt it was only about 10 that was bad but it ended up with me replacing about 80 tiles.. took me a whole day..

Got the extension we had bulit 2 years ago painted so now the exterior is not only primer. Fixed the exterior vents for the bathrooms so now it is not just a ugly hole in the wall were the fans vent to the outside.

Removed the old unused tv antenna, those things are heavier then they look apparently.. almost dropped it from the skylift when I loosened the bolts holding it.

Put up snow protection railing on the building where the furnace is in since we walk almost directly under that roof every day all year long and sometimes have to jump out of the way of the snow that comes crashing down.

Cut down an old appletree that was about to die and removed some rosehip bushes that was everywhere, yes i got stund by their thorns so many times i lost count. Now I just need to get out the digger and remove the stumps that are left

I have no idea how i managed all that work in only 3 days and at the same time having to work at my job and watch my son.

While vacationing in Orillia I just had to take a side trip to Edenvale.  This 1:1 replica has bounced around over the years but seems to have found a permanent home here.

Beautiful beautiful.

The story of the sad end of the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow program still makes me sad / mad every time I think about it.

What a waste.
