John M. Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Got back from a nice visit and lunch with my cousins. The husband of one of them did my taxes and I'll be getting a nice refund from the federal and state governments. It'll be put it towards my next car to replace the trusty Accord which is showing it's age. 1

Dave Ambrose Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Going to a concert tonight. We scored some awesome seats to see Anoushka Shankar, daughter of Ravi Shankar. Old people may remember him. 🙂 3

Never a big sweets eater even as a kid (being allergic to chocolate took care of that!). I was allergic to chocolate as a kid too. Along with a bunch of other foods. Made Halloween and Christmas a real pain for me. Still not big into chocolate as an adult.
Falcon Ranchero Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Pretty cool day; did the first two hours of four-wheeler practical training, it was pretty rad, and then did the first two hours of chainsaw practical, neat also. Same next Wednesday then boatin' sometime thereafter. 1
John M. Posted March 19 Posted March 19 A new ride for me. I left a deposit today on an 08 Toyota Corolla that I made a deal on with my mechanic who was selling it. It belonged to another customer who took care of it. Although it has 170.000 on the clock, it runs great, the body is in dang good shape and the underside metal is solid and it's a Toyota. He also offered to take the Accord in as trade although I never asked why. If I play my cards right, it'll be on the road inside of two weeks. 🙂 2
Earl Marischal Posted March 20 Posted March 20 A letter from my old employer saying I had been underpaid on my pension and I was due a modest back payment. Better to have it coming in than going out! steve 6
stavanzer Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Saw my Grandson in his Second High School Play. (one in the Fall, one in the Spring) He was outstanding! He's only a Freshman this year, but the Drama Teacher really likes his work ethic and Attitude. I hope he continues to do well. He was Great! 4
A modeler named mike Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Today after 3 years sitting, with a battery tender on her, and an friend who is an ace mechanic with over 30+ years of experience on just about anything with a sparkplug and a carburetor working on her, the 1950 John Deere M series tractor came alive! Now to find her a new owner that will give her the love and attention she deserves instead of just sitting in our garage. 2
John M. Posted March 23 Posted March 23 (edited) I'll be closing the deal with my mechanic this week on the 08 Toyota Corolla that I bought from him. It's been a great 7 years with the 97 Accord but it deserves a well earned retirement. It'll be traded and cash for the Corolla . Edited March 23 by John M. 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 26 Posted March 26 What I expected to be an annoying PITA at my bank, after the rep I've been working with for 10 years transferred to another branch, was a piece of cake. The new person is smart, knows her job, the bank regs, and took care of everything almost instantly. It's really nice to encounter competence. 8

LennyB Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Last fall while at America's Packard Museum in Dayton OH my reliable Sony camera started making popping noises and the flash crapped out. It apparently is a common issue which means the wire harness that goes to the flash unit has shorted out. You would think something like replacing the flash would be easy. Far from easy as you literally have to gut the whole unit. Found a YouTube video in Polish that describes the process, (sometimes you can find a useful video) and bought a new flash on amazon for $8.99. Been putting off the repair as it is quite complex but today I decided to dive in. The video is helpful although as it goes along it starts to eliminate some steps and it doesn't show you how to put the camera back together. Needless to say the camera survived the surgery and we have a flash once again. I think the whole process took about two hours. So labor wise I probably would have been better off buying a new camera. But I'm pleased that the camera will live to shoot another day. 4
89AKurt Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I had posted in the Irk thread about losing keys. I looked all over the place, and cleaned up the house a little in the process. After several days, I noticed something needing an easy fix, and there they were in the folded rear window! I had changed my routine of keeping the keys in the padlock, and tossed them into the cockpit, in a hurry. What a dummy! 2

Falcon Ranchero Posted March 31 Posted March 31 School delayed 'till 12:00 noon today since the freezing rain last night. Sun's out now; just took two hours shoveling the snow off my grandma's driveway, revealing the ice layer beneath. Hopefullt the sun will melt the ice and hopefully no more freakin' snow since it's April tomorrow.
