wayne swayze Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) This is yet another build sitting on the bench wanting my attention. It will be curbside, unlike the gorgeous trailer posted here a short time ago. Today, I worked on the circular windows for the sides. The "glass" is from the ancient "Hyper Hut" custom van, while the chrome rings are beauty rings from unknown source. I'll be using the wheels and caps from the Monogram '56 T-Bird, and the cycle fenders from the AMT '25 T. Edited September 23, 2015 by wayne swayze
wayne swayze Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 Haven't decided about a tow vehicle yet....maybe the Merc woody.... maybe the '34 pickup in this earlier photo. I'm going to attempt to make the trailer a bit like a woody, that's the plan. When I started the trailer, I was remembering the cult T.V. program called "Twin Peaks". So the fenders have peaks, the body of the trailer painted red, and the curtains sorta resemble the pattern on the floor in the surreal episode (?) And the lower portion of the trailer done in "wood". I've already built custom housings for '59 Caddy taillights. If anyone knows of a kit with Washington state license plates, please let me know. Thanks for your interest.
wayne swayze Posted August 5, 2014 Author Posted August 5, 2014 Got to spend some time in my little shop this afternoon. Still working on this small project, but today , I was having some FUN! Got the curtains figured out, the support rods for fenders were made from a paper clip, and I'm using the hinges and handles from a '37 Ford. I thought the 1/2 round coming off the bubble windows gave it an "Art Deco" feel. Thanks for looking.
wayne swayze Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Well, I have most of the pieces figured out. The rear bumper and brackets will likely be '32 Ford, as I have a few spares. The inner support walls will get started later today. I have the dark red paint, so it shouldn't be too much longer 'till this project is done, hopefully by the end of the month.
wayne swayze Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Some progress with the inner support walls. Slow progress for sure!
wayne swayze Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Inner walls are in place. Now able to mock up with the "roof". Chipping away at it today. Got the Stude out of the "pond" to give you an idea of the size of the trailer. Still lots to do.
wayne swayze Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 Well, nothing really noticeable today, although I was busy for a while in the "shop". Went through my old chrome trees, and found a '37 Chevy bumper, but had to take some material away from the middle. Built a support bracket to go behind the bumper. I also removed excess length in the top, added a strip of styrene for a door threshold and placed the spears behind the bubble windows.
wayne swayze Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 "Knock on Wood", but everything is fitting well so far. Today, I got the taillight mounts in and the fenders/wheels all together. I also BMF'd the sectioned rear bumper and started on the wood trim for the sides. Also prepped the curtains to be installed after paint. I believe it's time for a nap! haha
wayne swayze Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Because this trailer is so low.....and a woody as well, I've decided on it's name, after seeing a sign on the highway that read...... "BAGGED WOOD" Funny how the mind connects silly things together eh?
Ira Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Great Build Wayne! I've got to try one of these, looks like Fun...
wayne swayze Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Thanks fellas! Yes Ira, this is a lot of fun! You can design any shape or add details to your liking. Great diversion from other projects! And, there are a lot of fundamentals of modelling that you can brush up your skills also?
wayne swayze Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 I realize this looks like a pile of (insert appropriate noun)....lumber, but just putting a coat of poly on the balsa. I sure hope this project turns out like the picture in my head! More fun later.
wayne swayze Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 BAGGED WOOD..... Well, today is gluing the body together day. Sorta feels like the BIG commitment....no turning back at this point! The metal rod is supporting the taillight bracket inside the trailer. I'll leave it for a while until the glue is thoroughly dried, then remove the rod and masking tape.
Belugawrx Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Hahaha "Bagged Wood" that has so many connotations!! I love it I need one!!.... For behind this Looks great Thnx for the tips ....mind if I borrow that idea? Cheers
wayne swayze Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 Yessiree! Have at it! Have fun! Later today, I started measuring the 1/2 round for the "twin peaks" for over the roof. Asked my "helper" to check it out, but he just wants beer and $$$! hahaha. Cheers!
wayne swayze Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 I'll try again with a photo. Sorry. I'll try later.
Belugawrx Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) SWEET Here's my helper gassed out after making leaf springs,..... Wimp The wood trim is looking awesome bro Cheers Edited August 21, 2014 by Belugawrx
wayne swayze Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 Hello again. Today I placed the peaks over the roof then began body work where the roof and sides meet. Also made a good start on the spare tire set-up using an old Conny kit from an old parts box. Thanks for looking.
