VW93
While not a true drag car, I built this almost straight from the box. The only non kit supplied items were the AMT Parts Pack M&H slicks and the front tires which were from the Revell '50 Ford pickup. Decals were from my stash. I'm looking for a source for the M&H contingency decals. I have a couple of different versions but only one pair of each. I didn't want to use them yet in case I need to find someone to make some for me. The fenders and body are just set on the frame for now. I have a friend that is going to help me with the BMF on the side trim and door handles when we can get together. Vent windows will be added after the BMF work is completed. After taking it outside for these pictures I found a few areas that need a little more attention. I'd post a link to the On The Workbench thread I started earlier this year but I'm having problems figuring out how to do it with Windows 8. You can find it by using the title of this post. Thanks for looking. Edited October 26, 2014 by VW93

W-409
That's really nice and looks period correct to me. Great work with it overall, very nice and clean job. That color fits perfectly to the look of that era and I like the stance as well. Great job.

VW93
Thanks for all the kind comments !!! The early AMT kits have always been some of my favorite kits. Next up is the Lindberg/AMT '34 Ford pickup. The '40 sedan is the second kit I've built after a 20+ year period of not building. There are a few flaws in this build, mainly in the detail painting (the eyes and hand coordination aren't what they used to be). I would have liked to done a little more detail painting under the hood. I also realized I should have used more contrasting colors for the interior. I'll also add a fire extinguisher to the interior after I find one in my parts stash. Vent windows will be added after the BMF work is completed. My goal with this build was to try and do the basics correctly. I spent quite a bit of time on mold & parting lines, paint prep and final finish.. The other goal was to get it together without glue smudges, fingerprints, misaligned headlight lenses and so on. The body paint could be a little better but I was happy to have no dirt, insects or orange peel after the paint was completed. Thanks again for all the comments. VW93
I don't know how it happened but my sedan won the Best 40's award at the GoodGuys show this weekend in Charlotte. It certainly wasn't the best build there but I'm quite pleased with the award. Edited December 10, 2014 by VW93
High octane
Not a drag car??? The class was called Gas Coupes & Sedans, and congrats on your Goodguys award.
VW93
Nick, I don't know how they determine the award winners. I was told that someone from the GoodGuys checks out the models and picks the winners. It may be that a certain model catches their eye and that determines an award winner. It is definitely not a judged show, I know this build wouldn't win an award if it was judged. Thanks for the congrats. rmvw guy
Congrats on your award. Told you I would look back in my previous post #17. I would be proud of the award, especially at GoodGuys! Maybe the judges were like me or around my age and it just hit them, I always loved this body style and it makes a perfect nostalgia drag car. I built one similar I would post but, can't do it from this PC.

I am proud of the award, I am just amazed it was picked over better builds than mine.Joseph, thanks for the congrats. The paint I used was Krylon ColorMaster "Peekaboo Blue". Matt T.
Kool! Neat looking build - it has the right attitude and look. Congrats on your award! Only thing I would change is the '80s-style "Oldsmobile" decal on the hood. Where did you get the "Rocket" decals? Edited October 27, 2014 by Matt T. VW93
Matt, thanks for the comments. Now that you mention it,the Oldsmobile letter font does look too 80's. I'll have to see what else I can find to do something about that. The Oldsmobile Rocket decals came from the AMT 65 Olds Modified Stocker decal sheet.I plan on adding some decals to the doors after I BMF the side trim and door handles. My first attempt at BMF'ing on my '40 Ford Coupe didn't come out as well as I would have liked.Once I do another attempt at using BMF I'll do the sedan.
