Wood bed floor question

OK, it seems everyone paints wood bed floors to look like nicely finished wood, but we all know that they didn't come that way when new.

So what is the correct finish for a stock build with a wood bed floor? It seems that either painted all body color, or bare wood with black strips would be correct.

I read an article on a correct 1:1 resto and that stated that most chevy trucks with wood beds were painted black.

What ever is correct, it seems to be what ever the builder feels...

That is correct. Same goes for GMC. A little additional info, the wood floor was an option on Fleetside/Wideside trucks all the way up to '87, as a easy to maintain option for working trucks. All Stepsides/Fendersides had wood floors, no option. Also, if you were to do a bare floor on GM truck, the wood used was Southern White Pine, rather than the Oak that is popular with "restored" trucks. BTW, yes, I'm guilty of putting varnished Oak in mine .
