If I remember correctly, it was one of those cartoonish kits of a semi doing burnouts.

Some people refer to Ford's 429 Boss as a semi Hemi whatever that's supposed to mean.

I too have seen the BB Chev referred to as a "semi-hemi" many times. Since both "semi" and "hemi" mean half (so does "demi"), I guess that means the BB Chevy is one-quarter...of something.

I remember a '57 Chevy pro-mod running on the European circuit a few years ago that the commentators referred to its engine as being a semi-hemi. It was my understanding that the car had a BBC with custom hemi heads on it - I never got a close look up at the engine so I am not sure where the spark plugs were.

I guess you could also refer to a flathead with the Ardun hemi head set-up on it as a semi-hemi as well.

No, Ardun heads were true hemi heads.

The "semi-hemi" term with BB Chevrolets comes from them having canted valves, similar to a hemi head engine, but they do not have the semi-spherical combustion chambers that are found on true hemi head engines.

I have heard of the 427 SOHC Ford and the Boss 429 Ford called this by the Chrysler guys around here. Maybe it is just a thing they do here. I will say that I have a Chevy II with 427 SOHC in it , but it is a glue bomb after all . Not an accurate example.

I have never heard of any stock Chevy called a Semi Hemi .

I remember hearing that term referring to the BB Chev, I also remember seeing Semi-Hemi on cars in a few of the old Hot Rod magazines. I have the March 1966 issue of Hot Rod, the article referenced is pretty interesting. I always wondered if the AMT AWB Chevy II was loosely based on the Bill Mitchell Kit. The article shows them unbolting and rolling the entire Chevy II front end rolling it away from the rest of the car. That was back when Hot Rod was filled with great articles from cover to cover.
