Yes I'm aware of the high shipping charges as I've done most of my model related business in the US since 15+ years, both from online hobby shops and ebay, especially since the surface shipping option disappeared some years ago...I don't want it to be more expensive than necessary and it gets expensive enough as it is without the GSP.

You have to agree with me that even tho' $15.00 for shipping is expensive it's a lot better than to ship the same thing to the same place for $30.00-35.00 through the GSP.

This must be specific to shipping from US to other countries. I recently got a kit from Japan via ebay, and shipping was $9.80. There were no additional payments for shipping.

I paid $6 to ship a very small packet to Germany and the person never got the package :-( However, I had proof I mailed it and Ebay did refund the buyer what he paid me. :-)

Got the kit today , could'nt track it as the number wasnt valid . The postage stickers on the carton added up to $ 52.85 us about what the seller quoted .

So why was i charged $ 78.44 by paypal ????????? There is not sticker or stamp saying that it was sent through global , so where is the $ 25.59 difference between what i was quoted and what the stickers on the carton ???????

Ok , my daughter rang pitney bowes australia today and asked what was the $ 25.59 for as there is no markings on the carton saying pitney bowes has not even handled the carton . The woman said that all cartons which they handle are classed as registered post ? Thats why it costs so much ????? My daughter said if its registered should someone have signed for it ???? Well nobody did it was just left on the front porch , now if we wernt honest we could say that we didnt get it as we NEVER signed for it and they would have to pay us the full amount for the item as well as postage . The woman said yes we would have to put in a claim form and they would have to pay it out . So i guess thats it as i got the carton and as of now i ask the seller not to send it through pitney bowes and only direct mail it , by the way not once did the tracker number work .

When you purchased the item, did you buy it through ebay's Global Shipping Program???

If so, the seller might have gotten a discount from ebay and USPS on their shipping if they click and pay for their postage online.

I just sold a coat that shipped to France from the US. My online shipping cost was $24, but the buyer paid $33. Much to my dismay, the actual shipping cost that I paid ($24 after my discount)was printed on the customs form...not the $33.

The buyers think that we are ripping them off when this happens, but we are not. We type in the weight of the package, and everything is figured for us. I am happy to get the USPS discount...I really am...our profit margins are tight on most items....but I hate it that the buyers think we are stealing from them.

The seller gets the discount, not the buyer. I don't care what they say and ebay has told me the same thing. As long as the weight and size are close to what you entered in the auction that is a discount offered to you by USPS for saving them time in shipping your package and for all the business you give them.

Yes it's the seller who gets the discount as he buys this service from lets say USPS, but he buys it for me as a buyer as I pay for everything including shipping, so I think in all fairness the buyer is kind of intitled to that discount, and it is possible for the seller to give a refund for the difference through Paypal after the item is shipped...so I can understand if some buyers feels they got ripped off if they don't get a refund.

I have got refunds several times when the shipping was cheaper than stated when I paid for the things, but not allways.

Another problem is when something is gone missing, it's the seller/sender who has to file the claim against the shipping company if a parcel is lost as he has bought the service, not the buyer/reciever...why would the seller care, he has got paid and done his part of the deal when he has shipped the item, but I as a buyer has paid the seller for the item including shipping and has not recieved my item...so why couldn't I as a buyer file the claim...it's not the sellers stuff that's missing, it's mine as I have paid for it...weird.

As a buyer you can open a dispute in Ebay/Paypal and the funds will be held and the seller will not get "paid" until the case is closed. Ask me how I know.

.....if all kits /and or toy items are declared as gift parcel - 15.00 to 20.00 , there should be no problems, sending out, or having sent to you. that ebay global shipping is the biggest rip off of all, making the expense of hobby items just ridiculous, putting money in the pocket of your customs offices.......send with a lower declared value, and make certain there is no ebay invoice in the parcel............. -_-

I think this eBay Global international shipping is a precurser to what they want to do with eBay auctions in the USA.

Some of you know about the 200 tems sold or $20,000 limit when eBay/Paypal informs the IRS that you are a bonified seller. There are some sellers that use multiple seller IDs to avoid that, but I believe the IRS definition of Structuring ( moving money in smaller bundles) will catch up to them. And then there are issues such as sales and user taxes that even if a person wanted to comply with, it most likely would be prohibitively complicated and expensive.

Ebay is no longer the homespun auction site it was in 1998. It's a big business now.

To compete and comply like Amazon in internet tax rules, ebay will take your reigns.

For that reason, I believe eBay will be run like an Amazon. If you want to sell, you will have to invoice and ship through them. They will take care of the total sales, sales tax, shipping details ect. Might even force people to do free ship like Amazon prime.

The litlle sellers will just disappear in the near future. Unless you want to make a business out of it.
