Swifster Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Does anyone know if anyone make a 55-57 Chevy 5700 LCF (Low Cab Forward) conversion kit? I would like one for a vintage car hauler project.
Swifster Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 OK, I think I found what I need...maybe. Is Ron Cash Replicas still in business?
Longbox55 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Unfortunately, no. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=62953
Swifster Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 OK, I need to e-mail Steve at R&R to see if he has them... <sigh>
Longbox55 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I'm not sure what direction you're wanting to go with the build, or if you're 100% set on '55-'57, but Race Motor Replicas does have a listing for a '55-'57 crew cab LCF (phantom or possibly aftermarket conversion, never a factory body) as well as a '58/'59 7000 LCF. I'm not really familiar with their bodies or their quality, though.
Swifster Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 I'm looking to do a late 50's GM car hauler and a Chevrolet parts truck. These types of trucks are usually medium duty, day cab style trucks. The haulers of the time only needed to carry four cars.
Longbox55 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Ok, I see what you're after. If you're not adverse to the quad headlamp front of the later truck, the '58/'59 7000 might be just the ticket, if you cant find the '55-'57 cab from R & R. The 7000 is essentially the same as the 5000, just with a higher payload, and slightly different wheelbase options. The 5000 (2 ton) was available in112 5/8 (5100), 136 5/8 (5400), and 160 5/8 (5700), the 7000 (2 1/2 ton) and 9000 (2 1/2 HD) were available in 112 5/8 (7100/9100), 124 5/8 (7200/9200), and 172 5/8 (7700/9700).
plastic trucker Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Frontier- Resin- Design lists one on eBay once in a while.
blazefox Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Rmr resins has a 58 day cab and 55 crewcab 45$ each
Swifster Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Star Models has the body I was looking for. In fact, he has a few. I'm getting two.
Swifster Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Steve Kohler at Star Models has been great. He confirmed he had the product and I had both cabs within a week. And the cabs really look nice.
