PARTSMARTY Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POLISH? I USE MANY DIFFERENT KINDS.I LIKE MEGUIARS SCRATCH X BUT I'M BLOWN UP USING THE NOVUS 3 STAGE POLISH.WHAT DO YOU LIKE?
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) I color-sand all my paint up to 12,000 grit wet. After that, I use 3M "Perfect It II Machine Polish". It's a very fine cut, made for final-polishing of real-car paint with a power buffer. I always have it on hand because I occasionally paint 1:1 high-end and custom cars. Works beautifully with minimal effort (if you've already sanded to 12,000). Edited October 26, 2014 by Ace-Garageguy
unclescott58 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) Oh darn, I thougt this was going to be about really pretty Polish girls. Am I disappointed. - Scott Edited October 26, 2014 by unclescott58
Tonioseven Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Turtle Wax polishing compound then Meguiar's #7 Professional Car Showglaze.
1930fordpickup Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Oh darn, I thougt this was going to be about really pretty Polish girls. Am I disappointed. - Scott I was going to say Lele Sobeski . LOL Go with what Bill says , the man is a pro.
Snake45 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Turtle Wax polishing compound,,,, They make two kinds, regular (white) and heavy duty (red). The HD stuff is handy on tough finishes like Testor Wet Look Clear. My normal routine now is color-sand with #1000 or #1500 3M Wetordry, wet, then a quick color-sand with #2000, then polish with Turtle Wax polish or Wright's Silver Cream, finishing with Wright's on a wet cloth, which cuts its abrasion. I'll put my shines up against anybody's. Though these days I go for a slightly less glossy look, especially on factory stock cars. It has a more authentic scale appearance than a super high gloss "wet look" finish. (Though there are times when that's exactly what I'm going for, too.)
10thumbs Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) Scott, me too, or maybe some kind of sausage? Marty, I use whatever is cheap. Meguiars (sp?) costs over here in Germany about $60! Michael Edited October 26, 2014 by 10thumbs
CJ1971 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I use & recommend Meguiars, Mothers & Autoglym. I have several different grades/compounds from cutting compounds to show car glaze. I also use their waxes. They're all as good as each other when used in order/correctly.
tbill Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) last two I did, after wet sanding with 2000 grit, I hit it with meguires 105 and 205. didn't do anything after that, gave me the look I was after, nice gloss and depth. Edited October 26, 2014 by tbill
Harry P. Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Treatment Model Wax. That's wax, not polish.
Harry P. Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POLISH? I have two. Maxwell Street Polish in Chicago... Or Jane Krakowski...
lordairgtar Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Oscar Koveleski. Of course, sausage wise, I prefer fresh kielbasa as opposed to smoked.
FordRodnKustom Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 For polishing out models after sanding I like Blue Coral Scratch Remover. Not sure if it's available any more though. For Polish women I'd have to say my favorite was my mother.Oh, and as far as the Kielbasa, my Grandmother made it in her kitchen. I'll never have such again.
jaymcminn Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Meguiar's Ultimate compound followed by the Ultimate polish and a light coat of their High-Tech Yellow wax gives me excellent results. Not only on my models, but on my 1:1 cars as well. It's not cheap, but you absolutely get what you pay for!
cobraman Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I use Novus #2 followed up with the #1. I must admit however my finishes leave a lot to be desired. : )
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 On second thought, I'd rather go with Harry's recommendations in post #13, and forget the whole shiny issue entirely.
935k3 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I have tried allot over the years but If I could only have one it would be Simichrome Metal Polish
Dragline Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I too use 3M Perfect It but I follow it with Novus. Then Turtle Wax. Bob
10thumbs Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Is Marty talking about real cars, or model cars? Michael
Snake45 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Treatment Model Wax. Lovely stuff but I found I can only use it on models that don't have any--or much--painted trim of any kind. If you put it on before you paint trim, the paint won't stick to it (nor will foil); if you put it on after trim, it removes the trim paint and smears it all over the rest of the paint. I'm currently working on a Camaro with all the trim removed, though--think I might give the wax a try on that again.
