LVZ2881 Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 this is for the gold anodized wheels on an '83 Bobby Allison stock car... Luke has suggested a paint, but its oop.. i tried tamiya transparent yellow over a spare rim, but it looks like anodized yellow...
Guest roadkill2525 Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 What about MM Brass Metalizer with a coat of the clear yellow?
CAL Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 What about MM Brass Metalizer with a coat of the clear yellow? That's exactly what I was thinking Gold or Brass with clear yellow over it. Maybe even a little flat. Real gold anodized aluminum almost looks like real brass. Another think funny about anodized aluminum is on batch always looks different than the next.
LVZ2881 Posted January 23, 2008 Author Posted January 23, 2008 I'll give it a shot if I can find some MM brass, I never even knew they made it....

JHDrew Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 This is the way to go. It's a product called Spaz Stix and I have used it with great results. It's usually found in the RC section of the hobby shops for some reason. Spaz Stix annodized gold Here's a picture of my gold annodized forks on a Yamaha MotoGP bike. Also the clutch plate top and all the heat marks on the exhaust system were done with Spaz Stix colors. You need to make sure to put down an acrylic barrier such as Future floor finish before shooting it through an air brush. Good luck, 1
LUKE'57 Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Try one of the permanent yellow magic markers on that scrap chrome wheel. Sometimes they are dark enough to give you the look you need.
mademan Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 tamiya transparent yellow and transparent orange, mix 60/40 yellow/orange.

Wakefan77 Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I know this is an old topic but I used Alclad transparent yellow on my Bill Eilliott build that's on here. Sprayed in a very light coat over the chrome wheels. If not, the wheels are "too" gold. I also used mineral spirits and lightly wiped the wheels ( with a q-tip) to let some of the chrome come back through. It took me several times to get this right.
