Dr. Cranky Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I just started this build based on a photograph a friend of mine (Tim Kustom) took at Cadillac Ranch, the famous Americana locale . . . Part of the fun was cutting the model in half and burying it . . . now the other half is going to be painting it! Yet another build in my on-going series on roadside attraction dioramas . . . Stay tuned in for more progress pictures . . .up next is some fun painting with airbrush, brush strokes, and markers!!! More pics in the Fotki. Thank you.
Raul_Perez Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Virgil, That one may not fit into a peanut butter lid, but it'll look pretty cool, just the same!!! The shading on the figure looks really good!! Too many people paint them without doing any highlights or shading, and it seems to distract from the realistic image that they're trying to portray. That's going to be a lot of fun weathering and painting all of the grafitti on the car!!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 24, 2008 Author Posted January 24, 2008 Raul, the figure in the above picture is just for fun . . . though I am painting a couple of figures that will go on the finished diorama, which, as you can see, is getting near done. Enjoy.
Harry P. Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 The figure in your first photo looks an awful lot like Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen..."Cadillac Ranch"...get it?
Raul_Perez Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Virgil, That is looking GREAT!!! One question; "Are there any hidden "messages" in the grafitti?" One comment; with a can of spray paint in his hand, the figure from your original pics would look great in this scene. Good job, as usual!!
Nick F40 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Well, ya Bruce is there, it's his song. What do the the meassages mean? Virgil, I like the first quote in your signature, good song
TimKustom Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Looks great Virg! You did it proud. I think you should have a stack of colored sharpies displayed next to it at the shows. Modelers could come up and "Personalize" it themselves. Imagine what it could look like after a couple of years at the shows! Here's are some links to the other shots taken by the wife and I at the Caddie Ranch during our "Great Lincoln Adventure" that inspired Cranky's build. http://public.fotki.com/timkustom/vacation...lac-ranch-amar/ http://public.fotki.com/timkustom/vacation...c-ranch-amar-1/ If you make it over there, be sure to head east from Amarillo to Conway to see the "Bug Ranch" Tim K.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 Tim, brother, I love the idea of the Sharpies at shows . . . I think I will try it . . . that will make it extra cool . . . you'll be the first to sign it in BAMA!!!
