ZTony8 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 The D.A.A.M. club will be coming to Chicago(Rosemont) for the muscle car show this weekend and we may do some hobby store exploring.Any good stores we should try to hit?
Exotics_Builder Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 The closest to Rosemont is Des Plaines Hobbies, a few miles north at Oakton and Lee Streets. Although train focused, they have a large assortment of plastic, paints and some detail items. There's Ron's Mundelein Hobbies quite a bit farther north that has train and plastics and paints, etc. Haven't been to them for about a year, so don't have current knowledge. I have yet to stop at this one, but a lot of people like Forever Timeless Hobby Shop several miles to the east of Rosemont in Chicago. A much farther run would be to Model Empire outside of Milwaukee in West Allis, but is easily 80 miles away.
Joe Handley Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Not sure who else is close to Rosemont now that Al's is closed up beside the Schaumburg Hobby Town on Golf Rd. I work for the HTU in St. Charles at 2061 Lincoln Highway (aka IL Rt. 38, Roosevelt Rd, and State St.) And will be working 11am-7pm tonight (we close at 8pm) as well as 10am-6pm on Saturday (all day shift), and the store will be open 11am-5pm Sunday, but I have that day off.
High octane Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Ron's Hobbies in Mundelein has a pretty good selection of model car kits, and although I haven't been to Forever Timeless Hobby Shop for quite some time, I did enjoy going there as well.
ismaelg Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I haven't been to Chicago in over 6 years, but Ron's Mundelein was a sacred stop whenever I traveled there. Venture hobbies was another great place. Thanks,
High octane Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Venture Hobbies along with Al's Hobbies are long gone. Ron's in Mundelein is still around as I was just there two weeks ago and should get over there again real soon.
Don Sikora II Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Haven't been there in a year or so, but America's Best Train, Toy and Hobby is worth checking out. It's just off Irving Park Road east of Rohlwing in Itasca. It's mostly a train shop, but it's a big store that's absolutely packed and there's a pretty good selection of kits. They aren't displayed very neatly though, and IIRC are more than one deep on the shelves, so plan on doing some digging.
chitownbri Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 theres a few in the joliet area, both on rte.30. leisure hours hobbies has a decent selection of kits but they cater mostly to rc cars and rpg. walts hobbies has a better selection of kits and paints. and theres also one in berwyn on ogden ave.
DrKerry Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Also in Milwaukee area is Greenfield News and Hobby which has a good selection of kits, books, magazines, detailing stuff.. etc...
