av405 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Hello. For any of you police car experts out there, I am looking for paint colors I can use for the interiors of the 1991-1992 Caprice, 1994-1996 Caprice (Revell kit), and the 1996-1997 Crown Victoria (Lindberg kit). I prefer to use Tamiya Acrylics but am open to using Testors as well (not necessarily acrylics). I believe the 1991-1992 Caprice came equipped with a black, blue, and tan interior. Additionally, I know that the 1996-1997 Crown Victoria had a bit of a two-tone color. Whereas, for example, a tan interior would feature a dash with two different shades of tan/brown. Thank you in advance.
SSNJim Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Most police Crown Victorias (popularly known as P71 or CVPI) seem to have the denim colored interior. I think Testors intermediate blue was a pretty good match. It has a FS number, so you should be able to find it in other brands. I don't remember a two tone dash on my 97. Lots of documentation out there on P71s. Crownvic.net would be a good starting point.
av405 Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 Hello. Thank you for your response. I suppose that I'm already a bit familiar with the interior colors for the years I mentioned. I'm mostly interested in knowing what corresponding colors I can use as far as model paints go. This is what I mean by the two-tone interior/dash:
Agent G Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 For a '91-'92 Caprice Tamiya Buff, XF 57, NATO Black XF 69 and Flat Blue XF 8 are the colors you need. '93 -'96 you can go with Buff, Sky Gray XF 19, Medium Blue XF 18 and a mix (50/50) of Flat Red XF 7 and Hull Red XF 9. Those are interior colors I remember on our all white cars. '90-'94 CV's seem to have all the above. I drove a '95 that had a dark blue interior. I don't remember the medium denim blue until '98-'99 or so. The two tone dash was only noticible on that tan interior. I'd replicate that with Buff and Flat Earth XF 52. The seats have a patterened fabric that makes it look like they are two toned as well. Again it's really more noticible on the light interiors like tan. Hope that helps. G
Tom Geiger Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) This is a local dealer. I've seen these cars in person. They always have a bunch of Vics, they had one with 5000 miles recently. They buy a lot of their cars from government motor pools. I'm sending these since this dealer always has a lot of nice pictures. May be worth saving these to your hard drive for later. A bit later model than you asked for but some decent photos in these two car descriptions... Note that one of them has an all cloth interior, while the other has cloth front seats and a vinyl back seat. This was typical for marked units. http://www.carvision.com/web/used/Ford-Police-Interceptor-2009-Norristown-Pennsylvania/16324955/ http://www.carvision.com/web/used/Ford-Police-Interceptor-2010-Norristown-Pennsylvania/17995555/ This last one is a Police Interceptor as well, but an unmarked car. This one was on my short list when I bought the Buick LaCrosse recently. Wife thought it was too big, but she likes the LaCrosse just fine... http://www.carvision.com/web/used/Ford-Crown-Victoria-2006-Norristown-Pennsylvania/16735825/ Edited December 20, 2014 by Tom Geiger
av405 Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) Agent G: Thank you very much for your answer, that is exactly the information I was looking for! All look like a pretty close match. Do you primer the interior on your cars before adding the final paint or do you just lay it on directly? Tom: Great pictures! Definitely newer than what I'm looking for but those pictures are just another reminder that somebody needs to kit the last generation Crown Vic. Edited December 20, 2014 by av405
Agent G Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Alberto I usually prime everything first. I use the same primer as the body and spray everything at once. I get good results from Plastikote T235 gray primer. G
av405 Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 Great to hear. I wanted to give the Pllastikote primer a try but have never been able to find any nearby. In the end I just decided to purchase some Tamiya gray primer from Hobby Lobby. I've heard great things about it. Thank you once again! I'll make sure to post here if I have any further questions related to this topic.

SfanGoch Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Auto Color Library is a great reference site. A large number of vehicles also have interior trim color info.
av405 Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 Thank you for the additional input fellas.
