snacktruck67 Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Are you serious. The artwork must be diamond and gold plated. No way,
my80malibu Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 The listing doesn't mention any documentation to prove it is authentic.
Tom Geiger Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) Expensive fishing expedition! A few years ago much of the original Johan art was sold on eBay and sales were in the low hundreds Edited December 30, 2014 by Tom Geiger
pharoah Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I'd like to have that, but not at that price. I'd like to see the original kit reissued too.
Erik Smith Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Wow! This thread again! The ever popular "I don't have enough money to buy that but even if I did I wouldn't, by people who will never have enough money so it's easy to say you never would" thread?
slusher Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 some one stopped taking their medication again...
Daddyfink Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Can we just get a pinned thread for these ebay postings to go into? And the guy can ask any amount he wants, it is his to sell. Blah, blah, blah.................................
Casey Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Can we just get a pinned thread for these ebay postings to go into? We considered having an eBay specific post/section a while ago, but then we'd have to make sure everything posted isn't something a member or a friend of a friend isn't selling themselves, and we'd get, well, the comments above, too, so we decided against it. As long as it's not someone blatantly selling their own stuff and the item(s) is/are something model-related worth discussing (like these original AMT art prints), post it. As for these prints, they are in remarkable condition compared to other original prints I've seen, but their condition may be why they are priced how they are. It shouldn't be too much trouble to ask for some authentication if you're serious about buying, either. Something like this:
PeeBee Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 The top image is ORIGINAL ART, the actual illustration that was rendered in gouache or egg tempera by the artist for use on the main (top) box art. The other four panels are obviously printed lithography. Whether they are from actual printer's proofs, or just box panels cut up from a mint original model box isn't clear. If they were printer's proofs they would have value if they were on the printer's form, which would be a large sheet with artwork resembling an unfolded model box with crops for the die-cut, bleeds, CMYK and spot-color ink information, etc. Extra value would be added if it were a proof with art director's and pressman's notes for color adjustments, etc., or, with the art director's dated approval to run the job. It would be cool if all the other original art was included in the sale. This "original art" is a commercial illustration, which, in the day, had no value beyond the commission (or salary, if done "in-house") paid to the artist who executed it. Unless, of course, the artist was a "super star" magazine cover, movie poster, children's book or graphic artist along the lines of Norman Rockwell, Bob Peak, Maurice Sendak, Milton Glaser, etc. However, people are collecting the more garden variety "anonymous" stuff now (yes, in the art-collector world Al Borst would be considered an anonymous commercial artist), such as ad and packaging art, especially if it complements a hobby or era that they're interested in. Although it doesn't matter what one pays for something if they really have to have it and money is no object, $7,500.00 seems way too high for this piece (by about $7,250.00 for a starting bid). If you had it appraised, or tried to resell it, you'd probably end up very disappointed and wished you'd spent that money on something else. If you ask me, the seller is being unrealistic (Uninformed? Delusional? Greedy?). But hey, you never know. It'll be interesting to see if this auction goes anywhere. PB.
Tom Geiger Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 More eBay fun.... Over the past few weeks I had researched (and bought) new headlights for my Dodge Grand Caravan. I also did a quick look for a Pace Spray Booth. Since then I'm getting emails from them urging me that "It's Time To Make Your Move!" Four photos of Dodge Caravan headlights... (Don't they even keep track of what you buy?) And their idea of the spray booth I really need: Yea, only $7000 plus freight. And they listed several to choose from!
