mike 51 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Tower has the '71 for $27 I get free shipping over $25 offers from them about once a month. But it appears they are NOT stocking the '69.

No LHS to shop at and it's not likely that Hobby Lobby will have them.

AzTom Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 After looking at the grill with a magnifying glass, the 69 kit actually has a 68 grill without the black-out paint. The 69 would have a grove in the center bar that would be painted red on the Ranger models. I am not bashing the grill as it would have been crazy to issue two grills for the 68-69 trucks. I painted one with some flat black to get the 68 look.

That's gonna be hard to fix if it bothers anyone.....

When I'm done with mine it is going to be the best model I can build and when I look at it in the show case it will remind me of the real 68 F-100 I once owned.
Guest Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Those headlight doors(and turn signals) are rather oversized...I think the 4 grille sections are supposed to be the same size. That's gonna be hard to fix if it bothers anyone..... They are. The '71 suffers from the same problem. The four grille sections are supposed to be the same size. It was mentioned in the test shot phase. After looking at the grill with a magnifying glass, the 69 kit actually has a 68 grill without the black-out paint. The 69 would have a grove in the center bar that would be painted red on the Ranger models. I am not bashing the grill as it would have been crazy to issue two grills for the 68-69 trucks. I painted one with some flat black to get the 68 look. The '69 is the base Custom. Not a Ranger. The Ranger has an emblem in the center along with the red painted groove in the center bar.
mike 51 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) It's a shame they "overlooked" the grille problem, (is that why none of the photos were straight on?). .it's so obvious and there's no shortage of reference material. Unfortunately few here seem to notice or care, so we are probably stuck with them as is. Too bad, it's such a nice kit otherwise. Edited July 1, 2015 by mike 51
AzTom Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 The '69 is the base Custom. Not a Ranger. The Ranger has an emblem in the center along with the red painted groove in the center bar. I am aware of that. The 69 still should have the groove across the center, that would be painted red IF it were the Ranger. The model has the rounded center bar like a 68 grill.
mk11 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Better this way (except for the doors)... you can make your own groove mike
RAT-T Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 WHAT WOULD THE 69-71 4WD VERSION HAVE FOR SPRINGS IN THE FRONT, COIL OR LEAF?

disabled modeler Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 THANKS MIKE, WHEN DID THEY START USING THE 4WD TWIN I BEAM FRONT DIFF? think 1980 when they changed the body style.
Ben Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 The first two versions of this pickup gave us a long bed and a short bed, as well as both length chassis. The reason why one of them wasn't a step side is because the AMT '53 Ford pickup box is still valid for these years. Yea, Ford didn't change that box much. Some minor shape changes to the top rail, I'm sure the very picky will find more... We know there will be at least two more year versions. I know we'll be seeing a 4x4, a small block engine and two more different bumpers. I don't remember what else Dave Burket told me a ways back. The whole idea is that you will be able to build just about anything by combining parts from the different versions. And Dave did indicate if the voting public agreed, there may be more pickups down the road... Oh, you need to vote with your wallet! I bought four of each version so far. I hope that makes my vote count?
Ben Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Does anyone know where the pictures are of the trees showing the 4X4 parts and other possible variants of the kit? I looked through the old posts but couldn't find them?
Dave Van Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Texture issue????? Shot mine with Dupli-color gray sealer (not the thick primer) did my normal wet sanding with 800 grit.......and even with old arthritic hands preped in minutes and ready yo paint. But I am HIGHLY skilled.........
Ben Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Are these two kits interchangeable with each other? For instance, could the chrome side trim be shortened and used on the 69? Will the grills and tailgates swap from one to the other without modification?

Platerpants Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 They are identical kits suspension and cab wise. The motor mounts are the same too. I havent had much time to play with mine though...
