landman Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Any plans on here for engine stands/dollies? 1:25 of course.

landman Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Just get the welder out and whack some old structural shapes together to fit .. Is that a Chrysler L-head?
Craig Irwin Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 The AMT 66 Nova kit had one in the early releases, don't know about the newer releases.
southpier Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 i think the engine stands can afford to be specific, i.e., to hold whatever engine you're using it for. i have started a series of mock-up engines to be used as placeholders while i work the rest of the car around them at the design phase, or for selecting something given other constraints. anyway, started with the ubiquitous AMT in-practically-every-kit engine stand, and grafted on enough bits to hold it in place. i understand 2 is not exactly a series, 1 really since the first one is unmodified, but try to get into the spirit here .....
Art Anderson Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Any plans on here for engine stands/dollies? 1:25 of course. It seems to me that a good place to start would be to scope out some real engine stands. If you study the real thing, you'll notice that they aren't particularly complicated--and can be built from commonly available plastic (Evergreen or Plastruct styrene) or brass (K&S). Art
jbwelda Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 AMT stands: Fujimi enthusiasts 356/VW engine stand: goofy stand from Attempt I, kool though: making stands is the most fun though. jb
afx Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Not an engine stand but here is the link to the body dolly tutorial I did. Edited January 17, 2015 by afx
landman Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Not an engine stand but here is the link to the body dolly tutorial I did. Thanks JC. I'm going to make one of those too.
Foxer Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Is that a Chrysler L-head? That it is .. destined to go in, or more likely displayed next to, a replica of my first car .. a '51 Plymouth.

Foxer Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I may need one of those later. The L Head 6 is from the AMT '41 Plymouth Coupe. But I've been dressing it up quite a bit for display outside the box.
landman Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Mike,I intend to build a Bombardier B12 some day. They ran Chrysler L-heads right up until the late fifties.
Foxer Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Mike, I intend to build a Bombardier B12 some day. They ran Chrysler L-heads right up until the late fifties. That would be really cool! They are pretty slab sided and would be a fairly simple scratchbuild. Just have to lacate a tank with the right idlers add treads.
Belugawrx Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Ok I'll play... This is the old AMT... modified a couple of times to take different engines This one is made of sprue and is much more stable...
landman Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) A practice run at a rotating stand. the next one will be made out of tubing and will have some angles corrected. And it will get casters too, eventually. Edited January 22, 2015 by landman
jacoballardtattoo Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 A quick sign of my ignorance, I just finished my first build and am wondering why an engine stand? Now don't get me wrong I like them and want to build one for my son to grow collection simply for the joy of the build as well as for display, but do they afford in the building and painting process?

In my case they will be used to display engines in a diorama type setting.
