Train Wreck Pete Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Just wondering how many members we have from this area, more specifically the Stratford area. I know I'm not the only one buying kits from our "LHS".
dptydawg Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Hi Peter I'm a bit north west of you on the shores of Lake Huron. Do you have a hobby shop in Stratford? I mostly use McCormick's in London. Carl
michaelbaskett Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Hi Peter... I'm way down southwest of you in a small town called Comber.... I shop mostly on Ebay, at Toy Shows in Ohio and Michigan and my local Hobby Shop is Windsor Hobbies, obviously in Windsor On. I have shopped at McCormicks in London too, Tim Humphreys is a good guy to do business with.... Later, Bill Baskett...
Belugawrx Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Hey Peter I'm a little farther away,..under the belly of the Lakes My aunt lives in London tho, and I have been to McCormick's too! My LHS here in St. Kitts is no where near as stocked
AC Norton Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I live in Hamilton....some good shops in my area, Dundas Valley hobby, Modellers Choice hobby, and Hamilton hobbies ...all within 15 minutes of one another. most of my buying comes from ebay dealers, as I find the travelling to shows does not have the blast factor it had thru the 80s and 90s era.....those old Toledo, Cleveland, and Detroit shows were the greatest of times for kits and toys , for sure. the expense of running around and paying overnight expenses to travel and all was fun when I was younger,,, guess my heart was lighter then......but travelling alone when all your friends have passed on just makes a ride no fun anymore. ebay will have to do now, I suppose......the ace..........
Belugawrx Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Hey ACE I found the Modeller's Choice once a couple of years ago,.. I'll have to take a spin out to see Hamilton hobbies and Dundas Valley
wayne swayze Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I did some paint purchases at Dundas Hobby last year, and liked the store and the service I received. I don't drive in winter weather, but I hope to get back in the spring. Really good selection of paints....not enough kits....
PatRedmond Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Windsor here. Same as Mr Baskett. Tim at McCormicks in London, Dundas Valley, Dave's Sports Collectibles & Hobby Shop in Woodstock (a bit of a hidden gem) all worth the trip.
wayne swayze Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 If you're looking for an old school hobby shop, you could definately check out Dave's in Woodstock! First time I went through the front door, it felt like a step back in time. Love the place!
Belugawrx Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Hey Ace,... Wanna take a ride to London area some time ? ... PM me I'll drive Looking to pick up P/E set for Walter Wolf F-1 kit.. and just to get out and look around
Train Wreck Pete Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 Pleased to meet you all! I'll definitely be checking out Dave's in the near future and I make sorta kinda regular trips to McCormick's. We don't have an actual hobby shop here, Carl, but we have a store called Video Plus Books that sells kits and some basic supplies.
restoman Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Way over here in Sarnia. We've got a small hobby shop - D&B's - decent selection but a little pricey. He's a Mopar guy too!
Belugawrx Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Since we are all here,... Have any of you been able to find Alclad products here in Ontario? How about Other detailing items A/N fittings, or Braided hose etc. Shipping and exchange rates are kicking our butts,... anywhere in Canada, you guys deal with?
restoman Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I haven't yet tried Alclad... but I'm a hop, skip and a jump away from Michigan. Plan is to head over to Port Huron soon and see what's available.
restoman Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Alclad's website shows Alclad to be available here in town at D&B's shop. No excuse to not try it now...
Belugawrx Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Hmm...I've looked everywhere for it I guess there's a problem shipping paints internationally I will keep searching...
Train Wreck Pete Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Made it to Dave's yesterday. Hobby heaven!
Belugawrx Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Cool,..it's about time I visited my aunt (in London) again. With the new Red Hill exprsway it's only 2 hrs. from St. Catharines, I'll try Dave's on my way thru Hamilton
peter31a Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Hey guys, just a reminder of HeritageCon at the warplane heritage museum in Hamilton on Sunday. (March 22)
Train Wreck Pete Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 I made an unhappy discovery yesterday. McCormick's in London is closing for good June 30.
wayne swayze Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Too bad about McCormick's closing. The end of a great era! Some of my 1st purchases were from Mrs. McCormick back in the early 60s. She would always ask if you needed any glue or brushes after every purchase. What a sweetheart. Never went in when the current guy took over...just a personal thing.
JTRACING Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 That sucks that another shop is closing. I'm in the St Catharines area also, ours LHS used to be huge and awesome. Now it has shrunk in size and tripled in prices lol, no more Alclad paints etc.. hardly ever buy stuff there anymore other than some supplies I buy maybe 1 or 2 kits a year there to give some support but I used to be in there once a week in years past !
