Nitrozilla Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Now I see why we call it DRAG racing. Apparently it was the crew chief's job to DRAG the car to a stop before the advent of Drag Chutes. Or a caption: "Mr. Garlits did everything he could to keep young Donald from red lighting to no avail."
Skip Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Cool front end, almost looks like some of the urethane mounts that they are using today. The front axle is really interesting, it does look like some of the fronts that Chassis Research and a few others were using in form, the shape is much wilder! All in all the car is great!
Greg Myers Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 What guys would do for a thrill! Some members of the Strokers hot rod club showed up at Cranston, RI, in 1959 to try out their new rail car. The driver, Carl Debien, was desperately seeking the thrill of a wheel stand, but he needed a little manual assist. That worked, but the front axle broke when it came back down on the pavement.
