om617 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Does anyone know if someone offers stock hood for the 64 Mercury Comet? The ones i have seen so far are the teardrop and the one with the huge air intakes in front. I need the stock one.
gtx6970 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 The recently released Model King 64 comet IS stock ,,but the hood is molded shut . yours been cut out I assume
om617 Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Mine is the original issue where some kiddo with drag ambitions cut a big chunk out of the hood so the blower would fit. So i cut out the the remaining parts and ordered engine compartment from Missing Link. So now i`m looking for stock hood.
Badluck 13 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 You might want to try vhart@hartspartsresin.com if he don't show it drop him a line being he may have one or can make you one,he did a stock hood, interior tub(sedan style) and bench seat for Jo Han AMC Rambler and the stuff I got was priced VERY well and beautiful quality....
hack-n-whack Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 You might want to contact Dave Dodge. I think he makes a resin '64 Comet kit with a stock hood, as well as a teardrop bubble and a dual snorkel hood too. He's at MCW.
om617 Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 Thank you Thomas, i will try and see if can get anything from there.
gtx6970 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 If you dont find anything . ..let me know. I have 3 of the comets and none will be built replica stock. I will be cutting the hood out of all 3 ,,,,,at some point,,,just wasnt even thinking about doing it anytime soon . If you cant find one I might be convinced to go ahead and cut one out
om617 Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Thanks for the offer Bill,i really appreciate it. If i dont get any respons on the previous suggestions i`ll send you a PM.
ChrisBcritter Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Hi Tommy, Here's a damaged body on eBay with a low opening bid - looks like the hood's OK. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-1-25-64-MERCURY-COMET-CALIENTE-BODY-DAMAGE-USED-CIRCA-1964-/391051462349?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5b0c7bc6cd
Chuck Most Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Just curious- but couldn't you "plug" the hole with a plastic patch and smooth it out with putty? That would seem more simple than looking for a hood, buying/working out a deal to get it, and waiting for it to show up. Not knocking you for looking, I'm just curious.
